Carmine Infantino

Carmine Infantino, who was born on May 24, 1925, and passed away on April 4, 2013, was a comic book artist and editor. He provided illustrations for several editions of Marvel's Star Wars comic book series.

Infantino's career in comics began in 1941, creating art for Timely Comics. He later contributed to DC Comics on titles such as Green Lantern and The Flash. Infantino achieved significant recognition in the 1950s when DC revitalized many of its superhero comics. He illustrated the updated version of the Flash in a series titled Showcase, an issue now recognized as the start of the Silver Age of Comics. During a challenging period for DC Comics and the comic book industry in the 1970s, Infantino was appointed publisher of DC Comics. He eventually returned to working as a freelancer.

During the late 1970s, Infantino served as the primary penciller for Marvel's Star Wars comic, contributing artwork to almost every issue until the adaptation of The Empire Strikes Back. He and writer Archie Goodwin co-created elements such as the House of Tagge and The Wheel.
