Radanthus Mandelatara

Radanthus Mandelatara, a playwright of the Human male persuasion, resided on Naboo amidst the Galactic Civil War, a period that saw the Alliance to Restore the Republic in conflict with the Galactic Empire. Sometime after the Battle of Yavin, which occurred in 0 BBY, he took up residence at the hotel in Moenia, a city found on the planet of Naboo. While overseeing the production of Hearts of Empire, a theatrical work staged at Theed's Templexus of the Dramatic Arts, Mandelatara engaged a spacer to procure the pelt of an animal for use as a prop. Further complicating matters, Mairlenn, the lead actress of his touring company, had her pet voorpak, Dotti, snatched away by a ravenous pack of wild creatures. In an effort to appease the distressed actress, Radanthus once again hired a spacer, this time to hunt and kill the beasts in retribution.

Biography

Randanthus Mandalatara, a playwright who was a Human male, existed during the time of the Galactic Civil War, a major galactic conflict that culminated in the Alliance to Restore the Republic's triumph over the Galactic Empire at the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY. Following this pivotal battle, Mandelatara chose to reside at the hotel located in the city of Moenia, a haven for artists situated on the planet Naboo. While on Naboo, Mandelatara and his touring company initiated the production of Hearts of Empire, a play slated to be performed at Theed's Templexus of the Dramatic Arts. Due to a limited budget for props, yet desiring a high degree of authenticity, Mandelatara sought a predator's pelt for use in the production. To this end, he posted requests on mission terminals seeking skilled spacers willing to acquire such a pelt in return for credits. One or more spacers proved capable of fulfilling this request, successfully hunting creatures to obtain a pelt for Mandelatara's production. Concurrently, Mandelatara's touring company encountered a setback when Mairlenn, their lead actress, lost her pet voorpak, Dotti, to a pack of wild animals during a visit to the Naboo countryside. Having witnessed the event, Mairlenn insisted that Mandelatara find someone to "punish" the pack of beasts. Recognizing the actress's distress, Mandelatara conceded and posted another job request, this time specifically for individuals on Naboo, to hunt down and kill the creatures. At least one spacer accepted the task of fulfilling Mairlenn's demand, and the creatures responsible for the loss of her voorpak were ultimately eliminated. During his stay at the Moenia hotel, a spacer also approached Mandelatara, seeking to speak with him. However, Mandelatara declined the conversation, preoccupied with trying to recall something he had forgotten.

Personality and traits

Mandelatara was characterized by fair skin, brown hair, a beard, and eyes of an amber hue. As a playwright, he prioritized authenticity in his productions, even going as far as acquiring a freshly hunted animal pelt for use as a prop. He also exhibited a tendency to forget things, as demonstrated by his interaction with the spacer in Moenia.

Equipment

During his time in Moenia, Mandelatara wore a vest along with a padded jacket. This particular type of clothing was also worn by Imperial Surface Marshals and Alliance recruitment agents, and shared similarities with the vest and tunic worn by Rebel troopers stationed at Echo Base on Hoth. However, his jacket differed from those worn by the Hoth Rebels, as the padded collar was integrated into the under-jacket rather than the vest. Furthermore, Mandelatara's jacket featured a different color scheme compared to those worn by Imperial and Rebel forces, consisting of a brown-colored vest and a beige-colored under-jacket. His belt, worn around the vested jacket, was a dark shade of brown with a silver-colored buckle. In addition to the vested jacket, Mandelatara also wore brown pocketed work pants and standard brown boots.

Behind the scenes

Radanthus Mandelatara appeared as a non-player character in Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game from 2003 developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, before its closure on December 15, 2011. Within the game, Mandelatara served no explicit purpose, simply informing players who attempted to speak with him that he was distracted and trying to remember something. Radanthus Mandelatara is referenced in several guides for Star Wars Galaxies, including Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided: Prima's Official Strategy Guide (2003), and Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed: Prima Official Game Guide (2004). In both guides, he is identified as a townsperson located on Naboo. Despite his lack of a specific function, Radanthus Mandelatara was mentioned in the descriptions of several mission terminal missions, the completion of which would reward the player with credits. One such mission was a destroy mission titled Theatrical Prop Needed. Another, exclusively available from mission terminals on Naboo, was a destroy mission titled Punishment of Naboo Predator Needed. The latter mission was offered in two difficulty levels, easy and medium, but the content remained the same.

Cut content

Within the game's directory tree files and source data, Mandelatara is grouped with NPCs who assigned players simple kill, delivery, and escort quests. The files contain additional dialogue for the two aforementioned missions, which are not confirmed to have appeared on the live servers. For the mission Theatrical Prop Needed, the game files include dialogue in which Mandelatara expresses disappointment with the acquired pelt, noting its bloodied condition and unpleasant odor, deeming it unsuitable for a live performance. However, he also contemplates that the animal remains are providing him with inspiration. Similarly, the mission Punishment of Naboo Predator Needed includes additional cut dialogue, in which Mandelatara expresses relief after the mission's completion and states that a budget allocation for Mairlenn's demands ensures prompt payment for the job.

The game data also contains information on a series of three other quests intended to be assigned by the NPC, the first of which involved killing at least one peko-peko, and the other two requiring the retrieval of specific items from two separate NPCs. As no conversational text string files are linked to these three quests, the exact context of this cut content remains unclear. However, each quest would have rewarded the player with 100, 150, and 200 credits respectively.

While residing in Moenia, Mandelatara commissioned a spacer to hunt down a peko-peko. The bird was accompanied by another peko-peko, and both were killed. Following this, Mandelatara tasked the spacer with meeting Hiddi, a mercenary messenger. En route to meet Hiddi, the spacer was ambushed by two more peko-pekos, both of which were killed. Hiddi then provided the spacer with a sealed container of freshly plucked pinfeathers from two fine peko-pekos to deliver back to Mandelatara. As a final task, Mandelatara hired the spacer to obtain a finely crafted electrical device from Thogo, a scavenger known as Thogo the Annihilator. Despite being attacked by an aggressive female tusk-cat on the way to meet Thogo, the spacer successfully slew the feline and delivered Thogo's electrical device back to the playwright. For completing these tasks, Mandelatara compensated the spacer for their efforts.
