The Rakata monument was a colossal sculpture erected on the icy planet Hoth by the Infinite Empire during its zenith. The Rakata fashioned this structure millennia ago to commemorate their triumph over the savage Esh-kha. Functioning as a propaganda tool, it could project a hologram designed to indoctrinate slaves with tales of the Rakata's victory, an indoctrination rooted in logic and an unwavering conviction in the invincibility of its creators. Furthermore, it possessed the capability to reprogram and brainwash indigenous populations, molding them into more compliant servants of the Infinite Empire's overlords.
During the era of the Cold War, the Barsen'thor received intelligence from the Noetikons regarding an ancient "sleeping army" that the Rakata had long ago confined. This army was viewed as an ideal asset for the Jedi in defeating the menace posed by the Children of the Emperor. However, the army's location remained a mystery, with only vague indications pointing to Rakata ruins on Hoth. Consequently, the Jedi Consular journeyed to the frozen world, where they fought against Rakatan guardian droids guarding the site. After their destruction, the Consular unearthed a Rakata statue encased in ice, which they thawed to gain entry to the Monument.
Upon activation, the Monument's internal hologram rebooted and became active. Mistaking the Jedi Consular for a slave dispatched by Rakatan overseers, the hologram prepared to impart instruction on the Builders' glorious achievement. The hologram's programming rejected any notion of the Rakata's extinction or the Infinite Empire's collapse, dismissing such claims as heresy and warning that the "slaves" would face punishment from the overseers for uttering such falsehoods. The hologram proclaimed that the stars pointed to the world that served as a prison for the Esh-kha. Following this declaration, it initiated its secondary directive: to brainwash nearby individuals, transforming them into more effective "slaves" for the Builders.
The Monument is featured in the Jedi Consular class quest titled "Counterpoint," where the player's choices determine its ultimate fate. Opting for the light side path can result in its destruction, while choosing the dark side allows the player to instruct it to reprogram only Imperials.
