Rayc Ryjerd

Rayc Ryjerd, a male smuggler, was the offspring of Rycar Ryjerd, a trader. He was thought to be even more foolish than his father. By the time 4 ABY rolled around, he had accrued a number of debts, leading him to work for Jabba the Hutt, a notorious crime lord, in an attempt to settle them. Ryjerd was present within Jabba's Palace during that year when the Jedi Luke Skywalker arrived to negotiate for the freedom of his comrade Han Solo. Furthermore, he was aboard Jabba's extravagant luxury sail barge, known as the Khetanna, when Jabba transported Skywalker and Solo to the Great Pit of Carkoon for their execution.

Biography

Rayc Ryjerd, a male individual, came into existence before the events of 4 ABY. His parent was the Bimm trader Rycar Ryjerd. While engaged in the profession of a smuggler, he found himself burdened by debt after acquiring a starship. Consequently, he started employment under the crime lord Jabba the Hutt to alleviate his financial woes.

Ryjerd on Jabba's sail barge

By the time ABY 4 had arrived, Ryjerd had entered into a romantic relationship with Laudica, a Corellian gunrunner, who pursued the relationship despite knowing better. Both individuals were present within the courtroom of Jabba's Palace located on Tatooine during 4 ABY when the Jedi Luke Skywalker arrived to bargain for the life of his friend Han Solo, who was being kept as a prisoner within the palace's dungeons. When Jabba cast Skywalker into the palace's Rancor pit, Ryjerd, along with other courtroom inhabitants, observed from above as the Jedi engaged in combat with Jabba's rancor. Following Skywalker's killing of the creature, Jabba condemned Skywalker, Solo, and Solo's companion Chewbacca to be cast into the Great Pit of Carkoon on Tatooine, where they would be consumed by a Sarlacc.

The Hutt transported numerous members of his court onto the Khetanna, a luxury sail barge, for the journey across the Dune Sea to the pit. Ryjerd was among these court members. During the journey, the astromech droid R2-D2, who was serving drinks, spilled liquid on Ryjerd after being bumped by the protocol droid C-3PO. Upon the Khetanna's arrival at the Sarlacc pit, Skywalker and his allies mounted a last stand, resulting in the destruction of the Khetanna.

Personality and traits

Ryjerd was a dishonest smuggler, and was considered an idiot, even more so than his father. Laudica was romantically involved with him, but she considered the situation to be against her better judgement. Ryjerd was known for wearing a cap, and he possessed brown hair and a mustache. When Skywalker faced off against Jabba's rancor, he watched with delight and taunted him.

Behind the scenes

Rayc Ryjerd made his first appearance as a background character in Richard Marquand's 1983 movie Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, where an uncredited actor portrayed him. The palace scenes were shot on Stage 8 at Elstree Studios between January 25 and February 8, 1982. The sail barge interior shots were filmed on Stage 9 between February 9 and February 11. A card featuring the character was included in the Jabba's Palace Limited expansion set of the Decipher Star Wars Customizable Card Game, which was released in 1998. The card gave him a name and biographical details, and the name was simultaneously used on a separate card for Laudica.
