A rebel base existed on the planet known as Paucris Major. During 3 BBY, this base functioned as a construction and repair site for ships that would later form the rebel fleet. After Princess Leia Organa discovered that the Galactic Empire's plan was to bring "peace" to Paucris, Mon Mothma and Breha Organa charged Organa with journeying to Paucris to alert the base, which led to the evacuation of the planet and the destruction of the orbital installations.
