The Rebel Military Base functioned as a strategic outpost for the Alliance to Restore the Republic and was located on the desert planet of Tatooine.
Following the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, the Rebel Military Base was utilized. Positioned strategically between Bestine, the Imperial capital city, and Anchorhead, a Rebel sanctuary, the base housed a contingent of Rebel soldiers. The base's layout, when viewed from above, resembled the Alliance Starbird symbol, incorporating three watchtowers and two smaller structures.

However, in 1 ABY, the Empire uncovered its location, compelling the Rebellion to dismantle the base and relocate to evade Imperial detection. It was rumored that they moved to Rori, a swamp moon orbiting Naboo. Indeed, the Rebels did relocate their base to Rori, specifically northwest of Lake Octir. Nevertheless, some Rebels remained at the Tatooine base, where they met their death when the Empire razed the base. The aftermath of the brutal assault left debris, skeletons, and tattered Rebel banners scattered across the desert. The replacement base on Rori mirrored the design of the destroyed Tatooine installation.
Later, during the Galactic Civil War, Zabrak Errik Darksider betrayed the Rebellion by selling the base's coordinates to a spacer passing through Mos Eisley.

The Rebel Military Base was featured in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, before its shutdown on December 15, 2011.
Initially, upon the game's launch, the base was depicted as fully operational. However, with the introduction of the game's initial major update, "Publish 1," which went live on August 13, 2003, the developers redesigned the base to appear destroyed, and a replacement base was established on Rori. The same graphical model used for the intact base on Tatooine was repurposed for the new base on Rori. Within the game itself, no explanation was provided for the destruction of the Tatooine base and the subsequent construction of a new one on Rori, but the patch notes offered insight. According to the notes, the Rebels "packed up" the Tatooine base to avoid Imperial detection. Given the destroyed state of the Tatooine base, with Rebel corpses scattered around, it is reasonable to assume that the Empire attacked the base before all the Rebels could evacuate to the new facility on Rori.
