The remodulating buffer heatsink functioned as a crucial part of a starship's hyperdrive system. If this heatsink was absent or non-functional, the hyperdrive of the spacecraft would be unable to activate. Following the destruction of its hyperdrive as a result of sabotage orchestrated by Moff Kentor Sarne, the remodulating buffer heatsink on the FarStar's makeshift engines failed completely once the ship arrived at Tanquilla Beach.
