The Galactic Republic was symbolized by the Republic crest.
Serving as the ancient eight-spoked sigil of the Galactic Republic, the Republic crest, also known as the Galactic Republic symbol or the Republic cog, traces its origins to the numerological studies conducted by the Bendu monks. In their teachings, the number nine—represented by eight spokes converging on a central disk—signified the harmonious presence of the Force within a unified galaxy. The Republic's symbol was ubiquitous in society, fulfilling both civilian and military roles. As the Clone Wars erupted between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems following the outbreak, the crest gained even greater prominence. It adorned new war machines, flags, and banners. The Republic escape pods found on the Venator-class Star Destroyer Triumphant featured the Republic Crest on their entry hatchways. Ultimately, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine transformed the Republic into the First Galactic Empire, leading to the modification of the Republic crest into what became known as the Imperial crest.
