The Republic Diplomatic Corps, often shortened to RDC, functioned as a division of the Galactic Republic. It collaborated with both the Galactic Senate and the Jedi Order's Council of Reconciliation to facilitate peaceful solutions to diplomatic disputes. The Consular-class space cruiser was initially created to serve the Republic Diplomatic Corps. However, with the onset of the Clone Wars, the Republic Navy took possession of the RDC's cruisers, modifying them for combat through a combat retrofit.
