Hovertrain

An Umbara hovertrain Hovertrains (also referred to as hover-trains, bullet cars, maglev trains, maglev cars, levtrams, replusortrains, repulsor trains, or magnetic-lift trains) were a type of vehicle that utilized repulsorlift technology. They possessed a repulsorlift generator located within the primary cockpit module, as well as in each of the connected wagons. These vehicles were capable of traversing along a single rail track, or alternatively, being suspended from tracks above.

These trains, fueled by a central power source, served to link various locations within a city for a multitude of purposes. They were capable of transporting significant quantities of goods, such as ammunition, provisions, and personnel, or were implemented as a mode of public transit.

To safeguard both its crew and the cargo it carried, the train had the capacity to transport artillery pieces on specially designed carriages.

Historical Information

On Coruscant, hovertrains functioned as a form of pedestrian transport, moving between stations such as Elcor Station. During the events of the Battle of Coruscant, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was accompanied by Shaak Ti and Stass Allie on a civilian hovertrain, utilizing it as a means of reaching an underground shelter to evade General Grievous. The Galactic Empire also employed these trains during the Galactic Civil War on planets like Kessel, Aridus, and Ord Mantell. The armored hovertrain represented a specialized variant of this transportation system utilized by the Empire.

Furthermore, the Rebel Alliance utilized a hovertrain on Chandrila to facilitate the delivery of supplies to a city under the control of Kohl Seerdon. Rogue Squadron provided protection for the train against attacks from TIE/sa bombers that sought to prevent its arrival at the city.
