Captain Rhanken, the Human male in his middle years who commanded the Corellian freighter Barderia, might have previously been an officer of the Imperial forces.
A skilled captain, Rhanken would emerge from hyperspace just beyond star systems and analyze their transmissions prior to making a full jump. This tactic proved effective at preventing pirate encounters, until the Hawk-bat Independent Space Force interfered by drugging one of his crew members and extracting the Barderia's navigation data.
This composed individual maintained sufficient emotional control to project an image of fearlessness when facing "General Kargin." Furthermore, he showed a willingness to offer up his crew to maintain his facade of an impeccable officer before the disguised "Wraith Squadron pirates," even allowing his lieutenant to shoulder the responsibility for discrepancies in the cargo manifest, which were actually a result of Rhanken's own directives.
Despite his typically calm demeanor, Rhanken experienced surprise upon discovering the Hawk-bats present in the Halmad system when he arrived back home, at which point they once more compromised his course-plotting system.
