Riot Racing

Riot Racing, demanding exceptional piloting prowess and swift reflexes, was a sport practiced on the world of Serolonis. After TAY-0, a racer working for the information broker Ciddarin Scaleback, met an untimely end, the rogue clone trooper known as Tech once participated in a race.

Description

Riot Racing had very few regulations. To eliminate or disable rival racers, competitors would attach laser cannons to their speeders and fire at them. Consequently, many racers would reinforce their speeders with shields to defend against attacks, and heavily modify them to enhance their speed and handling. Due to the frequency of speeders being shot down, the Safa Toma Speedway authorities routinely warned spectators that they would not be held responsible for disintegration, injury, or death. Indeed, some fans were even killed during the races as a result of stray laser fire.

Tracks like the Safa Toma Speedway, in addition to the armed speeders, featured perilous obstacles that emerged from the floors or ceilings, causing speeders to crash. These included automated walls and electric arcs. Apart from these dangers, the races functioned as expected: the first racer to cross the finish line was declared the winner.

Behind the scenes

Riot Racing debuted in "Faster," the fourth episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch's second season, which premiered on Disney+ on January 18, 2023. The initial concept for the episode involved podracing, but as the storyline developed, the decision was made to replace it with a newly invented sport, which led to the creation of Riot Racing. Despite Riot Racing having fewer rules and limitations, its inspiration from podracing is still apparent.
