Roll of the Dice

"Roll of the Dice," a concise narrative penned by Karen Miller, was featured in Star Wars Insider 135. This tale unfolds directly before the happenings in Miller's novel, X-Wing: Mercy Kill, a manuscript she had access to beforehand to ensure accuracy in her writing. The concept for the story received the green light on March 28, 2012, and by the following day, Miller had completed roughly 50% of the initial version. The final story was handed in by April 11.

Synopsis of the Story

Myri Antilles, in disguise as a humanoid with purple skin, is working undercover for Galactic Alliance Security on a ship operated by a suspected criminal named Oobolo. Her mission takes an unexpected turn when her father, Wedge, appears and warns her that Oobolo's associates are close to discovering her true identity. This premonition proves accurate when an investigation initiated by Oobolo compels Wedge and Myri to flee in lifepods. Although they successfully abandon ship, Wedge's pod sustains damage, requiring Myri to rescue him while simultaneously evading Oobolo's vessel, which is attempting to destroy them amidst a skirmish with a Galactic Alliance ship that has arrived seeking the Antilles pair. Myri and Wedge manage to board the Galactic Alliance vessel safely, while Oobolo evades capture, but the Galactic Alliance now possesses a valuable clue to his whereabouts. The narrative concludes with Myri and Wedge rejoicing in their success.
