Galactic Alliance Security

Galactic Alliance Security, often shortened to GA Security or simply GAS, functioned as a police force and a paramilitary organization within the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. Primarily based on the planet of Coruscant, GAS was established following the Second Galactic Civil War. After the Galactic Alliance Guard was disbanded, the GA government created Galactic Alliance Security to act as its law enforcement division, distinct from the Galactic Alliance Defense Force. The Head of Galactic Alliance Security held dual roles, serving as the commander of GAS and the Director of Galactic Alliance Intelligence. This arrangement aimed to streamline information flow between the two entities, while avoiding a recreation of the secret police that the Galactic Alliance Guard had become. GAS conducted its daily operations from a blockhouse situated in the government district of Galactic City. GA Security managed detention centers and provided security services for the Armand Isard Correctional Facility.

Security troopers typically wore blue armor and helmets, but were occasionally equipped with black riot armor. Galactic Alliance Security also collaborated with bounty hunters, including individuals from Chief of State Natasi Daala's special-missions force: Dhidal Nyz, Vrannin Vaxx, Hrym Mawarr, and Zilaash Kuh. In 43.5 ABY, when a number of Jedi Knights began succumbing to a peculiar psychosis, the government deployed Galactic Alliance Security troopers to assist in interactions with the Jedi Order.

Organization

The Head of Galactic Alliance Security was in charge of the whole organization. Upon its formation following the Second Galactic Civil War, this individual simultaneously held the position of Director of Galactic Alliance Intelligence. Other senior ranks included Superintendent and Colonel. Below these were Captains, Lieutenants, and Sergeants.

Galactic Alliance Security personnel also engaged with bounty hunters and mercenaries, sometimes working alongside members of Natasi Daala's special-missions team. They utilized the skills of hunters like Zilaash Kuh, who wielded a lightsaber, and Dhidal Nyz, a Quarren inventor. The security forces also contracted the services of Vrannin Vaxx, a cyborg mercenary, Kaddit, a Rodian bounty hunter, and Hrym Mawarr, a Skakoan bounty hunter and politician.

History

A new crisis

Around the time after the Second Galactic Civil War, Galactic Alliance Security rose to prominence as a major security organization for the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances on Coruscant. In 43.5 ABY, a Security unit, under the command of Captain Savar, was dispatched to apprehend Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker on charges of neglecting his duties. This stemmed from his failure to prevent Jedi Knight Darth Caedus' transition to a Sith Lord and the dark side of the Force during the conflict. The team also included three bounty hunters from Chief of State Natasi Daala's special-missions force: Zilaash Kuh, Dhidal Nyz, and Hrym Mawarr. During the arrest, one of the troopers, Bessen, accidentally fired upon Skywalker, but the situation was quickly resolved. Skywalker was then taken to a Galactic Alliance Security blockhouse, although he was released shortly thereafter.

Later, security forces, again led by Savar and including bounty hunters Kuh and Kaddit, another member of Daala's force, were sent to capture Jedi Knight Valin Horn, who had engaged in a destructive rampage throughout Coruscant, the galactic capital, following a psychotic breakdown. Skywalker managed to capture Horn, but Security forces attempted to compel Skywalker to surrender the fugitive. Eventually, a compromise was reached, and Horn was confined to the Mon Mothma Memorial Medical Center. However, after Skywalker's trial and subsequent exile, Horn was relocated to the Jedi Temple.

Security troopers were subsequently issued an arrest warrant for Horn, and Captain Oric Harfard led a group of troopers, accompanied by Zilaash Kuh and the mercenary Vrannin Vaxx, to the Temple to apprehend Horn. The Jedi Knight was then subjected to a trial, encased in carbonite, and imprisoned in the Armand Isard Correctional Facility, a Galactic Alliance prison.

Jedi interventions

Security forces were present during Seff Hellin's attempt to free Horn from the Armand Isard Correctional Facility. Once again, they employed the services of bounty hunters Kuh and Nyz, but they failed to capture Hellin, who was apprehended by Darkmeld—a secret organization founded by Jedi Knight Jaina Solo to counteract Daala's anti-Jedi policies. Galactic Alliance Security troops under Harfard arrived at the Jedi Temple the next day to arrest Hellin, but Grand Master Kenth Hamner truthfully informed Harfard that he did not know Hellin's location, as Solo had kept the Darkmeld organization a secret from the Masters.

Shortly thereafter, Horn's sister, Jysella Horn, developed the same psychosis as her brother. She fled from the Temple and fought with Jedi Knights Bazel Warv and Yaqeel Saav'etu before being captured by Security forces. The two Horn children were moved to a covert Galactic Alliance Security blockhouse under the command of Colonel Wruq Retk.

Soon, Warv and Saav'etu also succumbed to the psychosis. They were captured by Solo, Imperial Remnant Head of State Jagged Fel, and Solo's parents, Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo, outside of the Jedi Temple's speeder entrance. Galactic Alliance Security Captain Atar arrived with an arrest warrant for Warv and Saav'etu, but the two Jedi had already been secured inside the Temple, and Han and Leia Solo retreated into the Temple and closed the entrance behind them to buy time. Fel used his diplomatic immunity to leave the scene with Jaina Solo in his limousine. Atar, frustrated by his failure to capture the psychotic Jedi, ordered that Fel and Solo be prevented from leaving. A Security team under the command of a Duros officer blocked the limo's path in their assault speeder, but Fel convinced Atar to allow them to leave.

Jedi propaganda

The Jedi Order devised a plan to expose the negative aspects of Galactic Alliance Security and garner public sympathy. They used a mind trick on Judge Arabelle Lorteli of the Court of Jedi Affairs to obtain a document granting them visitation rights to the Horn siblings. Jaina Solo arrived at the secret Galactic Alliance Security blockhouse, where two Security troopers attempted to prevent her entry. Sergeant Weeze raised an alarm, alerting nearby Security forces. However, several Jedi Masters arrived, along with the Horns' mother, Mirax Terrik Horn, and a large group of journalists. The Security forces arrived with Atar in command, but upon being presented with the Jedi's document, he was forced to grant them access to the Horns. He instructed Rasher Ke'e, a Bothan Security Lieutenant, to prevent the press from accessing the Horns, but the Jedi ignored Ke'e's instructions and ensured that the press followed them.

The Jedi and press discovered that the Horns were being held at the executive level of the building, where they were being treated as office decorations. Colonel Wruq Retk, the facility's commander, arrived and attempted to provoke the Jedi in front of the press, but Terrik Horn, enraged by Retk's treatment of her children, assaulted him, knocking him unconscious. The Security forces present began demanding her arrest, but at Jaina Solo's urging, Javis Tyrr, a journalist, posed a question to Xanda, a Security officer of the rank of Captain, which made their claims seem absurd. Chief of State Natasi Daala quickly arrived and announced that charges would not be filed. The Jedi deemed the mission a success; they had shown the public the corruption of Daala's courts and the apparent cruelty with which Galactic Alliance Security treated the Horns.

The Jedi Order subsequently succeeded in smuggling several psychotic Knights off-world. However, as more Jedi succumbed to the psychosis, Daala continued to demand that they be turned over to the government. When the Jedi Order refused, she turned to the Mandalorians rather than continuing to use Galactic Alliance Security forces, ordering first a raid and later a siege of the Jedi Temple by the Mandalorians. During the siege, the Jedi called for a public meeting with Daala to surrender their psychotic Knights. Daala agreed and brought with her Doctor Thalleus Tharn and a Galactic Alliance Security contingent led by Captain Oric Harfard. The meeting was a Jedi ruse—they had recently discovered that their Knights were healed from the psychosis, and thus sought to force Daala to end the siege. When Han Solo, acting as spokesperson for the Jedi, announced that the two formerly psychotic Jedi were leaving the Temple, Harfard protested vehemently, fearing that the Jedi were attempting to harm the Chief of State. Daala ignored him, however, allowing the two Knights—Turi Altamik and Sothais Saar—to approach and be examined by Doctor Tharn. Tharn pronounced them cured, and Daala ordered Captain Harfard to lift the siege.

Discredited

Within the political circles of Coruscant, a conspiracy was in motion to remove Natasi Daala from her position as Chief of State of the Galactic Alliance, a key step in their plan to establish a new Galactic Empire. The recent slave revolts, coupled with growing public discontent, had fueled Daala's paranoia, leading her to distrust even her closest allies. Even the GAS was under suspicion.

The conspirators capitalized on this situation when they discovered that Javon Thewles, a Lieutenant within the GAS stationed at the Senate Building, was being approached by Seha Dorvald, an undercover Jedi Knight. They orchestrated a false poisoning incident involving three fellow conspirators, Moff Drikl Lecersen, General Merratt Jaxton, and Senator Fost Bramsin, as well as the Senate water supply. Dorvald's true identity was leaked to the Galactic Alliance, resulting in her arrest. Thewles's connection to Dorvald led to his arrest on charges of conspiracy to murder, but he was soon released due to insufficient evidence. However, the damage was done, and Daala, no longer trusting the GAS, relieved them of their responsibility for Senate protection. Fleet Intelligence, which Daala trusted more due to her own naval background, was tasked with Senate security.

Fleet Intelligence, however, was under the control of Admiral Sallinor Parova, a member of the conspiracy. As they moved to depose Daala, the Jedi launched their own coup, culminating in a storming of the Senate Building and Daala's arrest. A transitional government was established, consisting of a Triumvirate between Saba Sebatyne, the acting Grand Master, Senator Haydnat Treen, and General Jaxton.

Changes

Following the dissolution of the Triumvirate, after Luke Skywalker made the decision to remove the Jedi Order from Coruscant, the Senate proceeded to elect an interim Chief of State. While Senator Padnel Ovin was initially elected, members of the Lost Tribe of Sith had secretly infiltrated Coruscant with the intention of seizing control of the government and preparing for their campaign of galactic domination. Through the actions of High Lord Ivaar Workan, who was operating undercover as Senator Kameron Suldar, the Jedi were discredited, accused of abusing their power during their time in government. A Senate subcommittee, led by Workan, was formed to investigate these allegations, and the GAS arrested Leia Organa Solo, the only Jedi remaining on Coruscant. The Jedi retaliated by attacking the Sith who had infiltrated the GA government and the GAS, including a superintendent. Although the Jedi were successful in eliminating most of the Sith, Coruscant suffered significant damage, including the Galactic Justice Center.

In the aftermath of the arrest of Borath Maddeus, the head of the GAS, for his involvement in the Imperial-Alliance conspiracy, Garik Loran was appointed as the new head of both the GAS and Galactic Alliance Intelligence.
