The New Jedi Temple functioned as the central hub for the New Jedi Order starting from the conclusion of the Yuuzhan Vong War up until its seizure by the One Sith in 130 ABY. Following this capture, it was transformed into the Temple of the Sith. The Jedi regained control of it at the close of the Second Imperial Civil War.
Luke Skywalker, upon re-establishing the Jedi Order, embarked with his students on a mission to rediscover the teachings of their predecessors. With the wisdom imparted by the deceased Jedi Masters Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Skywalker initiated the instruction of his initiates on the remote Yavin 4, utilizing the limited knowledge he possessed. After the Galactic Empire was finally ousted from Coruscant by the New Republic, Skywalker and his students reclaimed the devastated Jedi Temple. They began a search through the debris, hoping to recover any surviving artifacts. When Tionne Solusar found the Jedi Archives again, she dedicated herself to restoring and updating the lost repository of knowledge. Despite the Jedi maintaining a greater distance from the New Republic Senate compared to the era of the Old Republic, Skywalker commissioned the construction of the Jedi Headquarters on top of the Temple Ziggurat.

As the Jedi continually refined their teachings and philosophies, the galaxy faced invasion by the Yuuzhan Vong. When these extragalactic invaders attacked the capital, the Temple and Headquarters were lost, with the structure enduring significant damage. To ensure the Order's survival, all information discovered at the Temple was moved to various hidden bases used throughout the war. Ultimately, the Order played a key role in leading the newly established Galactic Alliance to victory. Acknowledging the Order's crucial leadership and the sacrifices made by the Jedi, Chief of State Cal Omas of the Alliance tasked the Reconstruction Authority with rebuilding the Temple. As the Yuuzhan Vong Shapers worked to restore the planet, the Reconstruction Authority focused on both providing the Jedi with a home on Coruscant and creating a symbol of unity between the Alliance and the Jedi. Within the restored Temple Precinct, the Processional Way culminated at the newly built Fellowship Plaza, which then led to the Galactic Justice Center.
Although the Jedi appreciated the new Temple, many within the Order desired to maintain a separation from the politics of the Senate. With the Jedi Academy on Ossus already fully operational, the Order had limited need for the Coruscant Temple except for advising the Alliance. Many Jedi had already established private residences throughout the galaxy; unlike the strict rules of the Old Order, Jedi were allowed possessions, and many were independently wealthy. However, over time, the Order began to centralize again. As civil war loomed, the Jedi High Council reconvened in the solemn chambers of the Council Spire. Most Jedi Masters and Knights took up residences in the Temple; even Grand Master Skywalker and his wife Mara occupied a formal apartment suite. By the time war erupted, the Jedi Temple was the epicenter of the Order, while the Academy on Ossus remained open as a secondary training facility for younglings.

As the Council addressed the Corellian threat of secession, Jedi Knight Jacen Solo escorted Dark Lady of the Sith Lumiya into the Temple. Lumiya had contacted Solo, asserting that he was destined to become a Sith. She claimed that by embracing the dark side of the Force, he would gain the power to overcome the Corellians and restore galactic peace. Skeptical of her motives, Solo decided to test her by leading her into the heart of her enemies' stronghold. He reasoned that if she could navigate the Temple without revealing her animosity towards Skywalker and the other Jedi, he would trust her judgment. While she displayed the expected awe of a visitor to the Temple, she maintained complete control over her emotions and departed with her new apprentice. Simultaneously, the Jedi initiated a search for the Dark Jedi Alema Rar. At the request of former Captain Jagged Fel, the Jedi Council granted him an office within the Temple to coordinate his pursuit of the rogue Twi'lek.
During the war, Mara, the Grand Master's wife, was murdered on Kavan by her nephew Jacen Solo, a truth that remained hidden from the Jedi for several months. Her remains were brought back to the Temple for cremation, with a ceremony planned in the Morning Court attended by Jedi, diplomats, and friends. As the funeral commenced, a group of Galactic Alliance Guardsmen attempted to apprehend Han and Leia Solo in a hall above the Court. The Solos evaded capture by fleeing the Temple and not disrupting the funeral, but the incident exposed the Temple's vulnerability to the Colonel Jacen Solo's reformed government. Shortly after, the Ossus Academy was attacked by the GAG under Colonel Solo's orders. Recognizing their precarious situation, the Council made a decisive move at the Battle of Kuat, severing their ties with the Alliance and abandoning them during the battle.
Furious over the humiliating defeat at Kuat, Colonel Solo commanded the GAG to invade the Temple on Coruscant. Anticipating this, the Council activated the Temple beacon to warn all Jedi to avoid Coruscant and to seek refuge at an abandoned Imperial base on the Sanctuary Moon of Endor. At the Temple, Jedi began evacuating with the assistance of the dedicated Temple Caretakers. Apprentice Seha Dorvald successfully extracted the Archives' data and escaped with it through the undercity, eventually delivering it to Endor. Later, the Order abandoned the base at Endor in favor of Shedu Maad in the Hapes Consortium. Establishing a secret academy there, the Jedi kept its existence hidden, even after the war concluded.
Following the defeat of Darth Caedus by his twin sister, Jedi Knight Jaina Solo, the Order initiated a reconciliation process between the Alliance and the Imperial Remnant. With Solo dead and Cha Niathal stepping down from the Chief of State Office, Admiral Natasi Daala was elected as Niathal's replacement. As the galaxy returned to a semblance of peace, the Order resumed its activities at the Temple. However, in 43 ABY, Daala began to exploit her position to wage war against the Order. Her first action was to order the arrest of Grand Master Skywalker, demanding his exile from the Temple and all other academies for failing to prevent the outbreak of insanity that was afflicting active Jedi. She then mandated that the Temple be opened to supervisors elected by the Senate and to the press.
Interim Grand Master Kenth Hamner complied with the Chief's order, but insisted that the Temple's private areas remain inviolable. Each supervisor would be assigned to a Jedi, but they were not permitted to follow them throughout the entire Temple. Consequently, all supervisors were stationed in what had been a youngling lecture hall, maintaining constant communication with their assigned Jedi via comlink. As the psychosis spread, the Temple infirmary became a refuge for the wanted Jedi. Jedi Jysella Horn went on a rampage in the Archives, while Yaqeel Saav'etu and Bazel Warv were apprehended at the southern speeder hangar beneath the Temple. When Daala ordered that all insane Jedi be frozen in carbonite, a group of Jedi known as Darkmeld, without Hamner's consent, kidnapped the patients and transported them to Shedu Maad. Although Hamner eventually succeeded in removing the supervisors and barring the press from the Temple, a constant swarm of media personnel surrounded the Temple, waiting for another Jedi to succumb to the Force insanity plaguing the Order.
As tensions between the Order and the Alliance continued to escalate, Jedi Sothais Saar fell victim to the same enigmatic madness affecting other Jedi. After fleeing the very public Senate Plaza, Saar was apprehended by Master Cilghal and brought to the Temple. Refusing to surrender Saar to the Alliance, Chief Daala ordered the Temple to be raided by Mandalorians. Despite attacks at the Main Entrance, hangar level, and food delivery hangars, the Jedi managed to repel the assault, though the Temple sustained damage. With Galactic Alliance Security stationed around the Temple, municipal water, power, and waste pickup were all cut off, forcing the Temple to rely on generators for operation. Following the attack, Han and Leia Solo, acting as liaisons between the government and the High Council, consulted with Hamner in a lower-level conference room to discuss a deal to surrender Saar in an attempt to repair relations with the Chief.
With the return of the exiled Grand Master Luke Skywalker, the Jedi High Council welcomed him in the Council Chambers and listened in disbelief as he unveiled his new direction for the Order. Realizing that the Jedi and the Galactic Alliance had become overly intertwined, Skywalker deemed it necessary for the Order to immediately withdraw its representative from the Alliance Triumvirate and to completely evacuate Coruscant. While there was initial hesitation about abandoning their Temple, Skywalker shared additional sensitive information. The Lost Tribe of the Sith had infiltrated Coruscant, and to apprehend them, the Jedi needed to leave the planet and return only when the Sith had all gathered on the world. Only then would the Jedi be prepared to eradicate the threat. In a public display, Masters Skywalker, Sebatyne, and Jedi Solo marched down the Processional Way to a special stage erected at Fellowship Plaza, where they stood with acting Chief of State Wynn Dorvan and Senator Haydnat Treen. Together, the Jedi and politicians bid farewell to the era of Jedi presence on Coruscant, and the Order departed almost entirely.
Inside the Temple, the hidden Barabel Jedi removed the locks on the lower-level sewage grates to create a "backdoor" in case the Jedi wished to return. Within the Temple itself, the Archives data had been copied, and the most valuable data was taken with the departing Order. All that remained was protected by a virus that would spread and delete data if intruders attempted to access information. Indeed, the Temple would be occupied by the Lost Tribe's Keshiri members, who were part of the Coruscant infiltration team. Because their species could not blend in with the public as their Human counterparts did, the Keshiri were forced to remain behind the scenes while the Humans infiltrated the government. Placed in command, the High Lord Ivaar Workan oversaw the Temple occupation and tasked his Sith with mapping the cavernous complex in preparation for the arrival of Grand Lord Darish Vol. Teams sent into the Temple sublevels disappeared as they encountered the hidden Barabel Jedi.

Over the following century, the Jedi Order continued to evolve and thrive, initiating the groundbreaking Ossus Project and volunteering the site of one of their most prestigious academies for terraforming by the reformed Yuuzhan Vong. Witnessing the positive results on Ossus, the Jedi advocated for its use on other worlds, hoping to garner support for the Yuuzhan Vong as they helped to erase memories of the war they had waged a century earlier. However, the Jedi failed to detect the manipulations of the One Sith, a clandestine organization forming on Korriban. With the project sabotaged, worlds assisted by the Jedi and Yuuzhan Vong descended into chaos, their populations ravaged by terrible diseases and plagues resulting from alien growth. Recognizing a burgeoning secessionist movement, the Imperial Remnant seized control of the core and ousted the Alliance government. As the Emperor demanded the Jedi's surrender, half of them fled the Temple on Coruscant, seeking refuge at the Ossus Academy. Legions of Sith invaded the Temple, killing or scattering those who remained. Shortly after, the Massacre at Ossus led to the dissolution of the Order.
With the surviving Jedi scattered or in hiding at the Hidden Temple, the Coruscant Temple fell under the dominion of Darth Krayt, who had successfully eliminated or dispersed the leaders of the Alliance, Jedi Order, and Galactic Empire, assuming the title of Emperor of the Galaxy. After occupying the Temple for seven years, the transparisteel pyramids were removed, and the Temple was completely transformed, becoming the Temple of the Sith in both name and design.
It was later abandoned by the Sith as they fled Coruscant at the conclusion of the Second Imperial Civil War, and the Jedi reclaimed it, restoring it to its original design.
The Jedi Temple, a striking pyramid constructed of tinted transparisteel in the [Rebirth architecture](/article/rebirth_architecture] style, was intended to succeed the former Jedi Temple, the Jedi Headquarters building, and the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4. Built atop the restored sacred spire that housed the old Temple, the complex was infused with light side energies, creating a calming and contemplative atmosphere for its occupants. Situated in the Temple Precinct, the grand edifice stood in the center of the Temple Court, an area adorned with massive bronzium statues and monuments commemorating the Jedi Order. Easily visible from hundreds of kilometers away, the Temple Apex soared over a kilometer into the sky, making it a prominent landmark in Galactic City.
When the Reconstruction Authority rebuilt the area surrounding the Temple, they connected the newly established Galactic Justice Center to the structure via Fellowship Plaza. It was said that from the Walking Garden, the tip of the Temple Apex could be seen. Unity Green and Liberation Lake were also located near the Temple.

From the perspective of an observer outside the Temple, few similarities would be apparent between the newly constructed Temple and its predecessor, which had served the Jedi Order for centuries. However, a review of the Temple's history reveals this to be a recurring pattern; as the Temple expanded, subsequent additions drastically altered its external appearance. A green pyramid was erected atop the Temple Ziggurat, housing the Jedi Council Spires, including Tranquillity Spire, thereby fundamentally changing the structure's silhouette. Furthermore, four smaller pyramids were erected at each corner of the edifice, augmenting the building's spatial capacity.
Despite its novel exterior, the Temple's interior design clearly drew inspiration from its historical antecedents. The five spires that once defined Coruscant's skyline two decades prior remained operational. The rooftop gardens that provided sustenance to the refectories, balconies, and hangars were meticulously reconstructed. Natural light permeated the outer shell, illuminating the Ziggurat's surface and cascading through the clerestories to brighten the interior halls. Once again, Tranquillity Spire safeguarded the ancient texts of the Jedi Order's founders, recovered from the vaults of Darth Sidious. The Hall of Knighthood was rebuilt, and new memorial statues were suspended within the tower via repulsorlift platforms. The rebuilt summit of the mountain was once more encircled by a meditation balcony, with a lower balcony showcasing a series of holographic depictions of Jedi history. Given that the mountain largely survived Operation: Knightfall and the attack by Lord Nyax, the original meditation chambers and cave chapels remained intact. Cutting-edge, high-gain communication transmitters were integrated into the apex of each of the new Temple's five pyramids, facilitating contact with the Ossus Academy and enabling meetings of the reformed High Council. The Operations Planning Center was also restored, continuing its function as Jedi Command's headquarters. With the hangars revitalized, the Jedi began to house their X-wings, E-wing, and the StealthX model, exclusively used by the Order. These starfighters would exit through hatches integrated into the complex's transparisteel shell.
Within the four new, resplendent pyramids were numerous chambers designated for the housing and education of Jedi Knights. One such chamber was the Morning Court, a spacious hall on the ground floor that served as a central hub for pedestrian traffic and large gatherings within the Temple. It was within this space that a pyre was erected for the funeral of Mara Jade Skywalker. The pyramid's apex could retract, allowing light to pour through a wide opening in the structure, ultimately illuminating the Morning Court below.
Inside the Temple, the Reconstruction Authority adhered closely to the blueprints obtained by Master Tionne Solusar from the ancient Jedi Archives. With most rooms replicated with meticulous accuracy, an Old Republic Jedi would find navigation through the extensive corridors relatively straightforward. Although many of the Order's novices now commenced their training at the Academy on Ossus, this section of the Temple remained in use for smaller classes and for ongoing study by Padawans chosen by a master and transferred to Coruscant. The Jedi Archives were restored and modernized by archivist and Chief Librarian Tionne Solusar, with the Archives and library filled with holobooks containing Jedi lore and personal journals from past Jedi in the field.
Following its renovation, the Archives once again stood as one of the galaxy's most comprehensive libraries. Another notable feature within the Temple was the Room of a Thousand Fountains, a sprawling greenhouse situated at the base of the quarter. Initially discovered by Grand Master Skywalker in an ancient document and later in a stolen recording of Operation: Knightfall stored in astromech R2-D2's memory banks, the Grand Master ensured that the meditative garden was rebuilt to its former splendor. While the Jedi collaborated with the galactic government, they occasionally detained their own prisoners. Consequently, the Temple was equipped with its own detention center. Housing delinquent apprentices, Dark Jedi, and, subsequently, psychotic Knights, the facility was designed to pacify and rehabilitate its occupants. Following the Second Galactic Civil War, Raynar Thul, a former Jedi who suffered brain damage after his time with the Killiks, was recuperating within the containment cells, as he was reluctant to rejoin the Temple community.
Also present was the Jedi Temple Great Hall, a spacious venue for meetings and assemblies in the years following the Second Galactic Civil War. It was within these chambers that the Order bade farewell to the exiled Grand Master Skywalker. Interim Grand Master Kenth Hamner would deliver daily reports here, updating the Order on the challenges imposed upon the Jedi by Chief of State Natasi Daala in 40 ABY. The meditative walkway, a vast corridor encircling the base of the Temple from the main entrance, was adorned with a newly constructed arcade of stained-glass windows and statues depicting events from Jedi history. It now extended around the four additional pyramids erected at each corner of the ziggurat. With the radiant High Council Tower towering on the southeast side of the structure, the rooms above the main entrance were primarily used as conference rooms and meeting spaces for visiting diplomats.
While the Jedi were committed to peace and meditation, they were also trained in self-defense. Numerous lightsaber training chambers were dispersed throughout the Temple, and a sparring arena was situated deep within the colossal edifice. Dormitories for students and Jedi on assignment were maintained, many located in the Knights' Billet, with each room individually tailored to accommodate the diverse needs of Jedi species. During the Swarm War, Grand Master Skywalker summoned Knights Tahiri Veila, Tesar Sebatyne, and Lowbacca to the Billet to exile them to Dagobah for meditation and recovery from their Joiner affliction. Senior Knights and Masters were provided with private rooms and offices from which to conduct affairs with distant governments and the Jedi Council.
To prevent a recurrence of an event like Operation: Knightfall, the Reconstruction Authority incorporated evacuation corridors and protocols in the event of fire or intrusion. Accessible via maintenance corridors or concealed wall panels, heavy metal doors blocked access to the hatch. Each door bore the inscription: "EMERGENCY EVACUATION ACCESS. USE ONLY IN TIMES OF EMERGENCY. TEMPLE SECURITY WILL BE ALERTED." Beyond the door, Jedi would enter a short permacrete passage leading to an identical door. Beyond this door was a telescoping platform suspended in a narrow space between the exterior wall of the city block that comprised the Temple Precinct. The platform could extend beyond the Precinct's outer wall into a traffic lane for immediate rescue.
Several clandestine security measures were integrated into the Temple's structure. In the Main Entrance, the bases of two pillars were hollowed out to house security droids deployable by the Temple Security Forces. Furthermore, a security screen could be deployed over the main entrance to trap intruders either inside or outside the Temple. Only the Grand Master was fully apprised of the extent of the new security systems. These included heavy hover assault droids concealed behind secret panels in the walls and columns, as well as anti-personnel shields surrounding the entrances and exits. These shields could easily trap any intruder, including a Jedi. This security enhancement was tested against the deranged Knight Jysella Horn in 43 ABY, although she managed to escape due to an enhanced form of precognition.
