The Temple Security Force functioned as the security police responsible for maintaining order within the Jedi Temple and the surrounding Temple Precinct located on Coruscant. While the title typically referred to the non-Force-sensitive soldiers and police officers assigned to this duty, the Temple Security also encompassed the Jedi Peacekeepers along with the Jedi Temple Guards who were stationed on Coruscant. Beyond investigating crimes and providing support to other jurisdictions, the Jedi Peacekeepers also conducted patrols and had the option to specialize as either snipers or brutes. The Jedi Gate Master oversaw groups of Padawans who guarded the Temple's entrances during the day, while Jedi Knights from the Security Force took over the watch at night. Records indicate that the Security Forces numbered 500 soldiers during the Clone Wars.
Tasked with safeguarding the Jedi Temple and policing the Temple Precinct, the Temple Security Force, particularly its members who lacked Force sensitivity, worked alongside the Jedi Order to defend the Temple during events such as the Sacking of Coruscant during the Great Galactic War and the invasion of the Temple at the conclusion of the Clone Wars. Many members, including Cin Drallig and Jurokk, perished in these conflicts. Following Order 66 during the reign of the Galactic Empire, which mandated the extermination of all Jedi and their allies, surviving members joined Whiplash and the Alliance to Restore the Republic, continuing their protective duties by aiding Jedi in escaping the Great Jedi Purge. With the rebuilding of the Jedi Temple under the guidance of Luke Skywalker's New Jedi Order, the Temple Security Force resumed their responsibilities, shielding the Jedi and their sanctuary from threats, including attacks by Galactic Alliance soldiers like the Galactic Alliance Guard and Galactic Alliance Security, even those originating from the very government the Jedi were meant to serve and protect.
The history of the Temple Security Force was initially documented in The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force by Jedi Master Crix Sunburris, a highly esteemed Jedi Guardian and accomplished pilot ace.

The security police force known as the Temple Security Force was stationed on Coruscant and was responsible for protecting the Jedi Temple, its successor, the resident Jedi, and treasures found within, as well as civilians residing in or visiting the adjacent Temple Precinct.
The Temple Security was organized into two distinct groups. The larger and more visible component consisted of individuals who were not Force-sensitive. These members were trained as both police and soldiers, and their ranks included former Jedi who, despite failing their Jedi Initiate Trials, wished to continue serving the Jedi Order. The second group, although not always explicitly referred to as "Temple Security," comprised Jedi who had specialized as Peacekeepers, a specific area of study within the Jedi Guardian discipline. Many Peacekeepers assisted the Coruscant Security Force or dedicated themselves to studying and tracking criminal activity. Those Peacekeepers assigned to patrol the Temple itself could further specialize as either snipers or brutes. The Jedi Gate Master was responsible for overseeing the security of the Temple's entrances, including the Main Entrance, the Public Entrance, and the Reception Hall. In addition to the regular security officers, the Gate Master supervised rotating groups of Padawans who guarded the Temple entrances during the day and Jedi Knights who stood guard at night.
Throughout the Temple, agents were positioned to safeguard various chambers. Two officers were consistently stationed at the central security station, where they monitored security cameras throughout the complex. During the Sacking of Coruscant in 3653 BBY, the Temple Security Forces attempted to aid the Jedi in defending the Temple against an assault by Sith and Imperial soldiers led by Darth Malgus, although they proved to be outmatched by Force-sensitive opponents. In 44 BBY, agents were dispatched to the depths of the Temple when Master Qui-Gon Jinn discovered the murderous Dark Jedi Xanatos lurking in the water tunnels. While Xanatos escaped, Security recovered and confiscated his mode of transportation into the waterway. Years later, at the height of the Clone Wars, the Security Force was under the command of Chief of Security Temple battlemaster Cin Drallig. At the war's end, the Republic's deceitful Supreme Chancellor Palpatine issued Order 66, ordering the Grand Army of the Republic to invade the Temple and kill its occupants. Remaining loyal to the Jedi, both non-Force-users and Jedi fought against the 501st Legion during Operation: Knightfall until their numbers were nearly decimated. Survivors joined the underground group known as Whiplash.
Following the reestablishment of the Order, Grand Master Luke Skywalker decided to reinstate the tradition of a security force at the Temple and began to build up a civilian group. While it is unknown if Gate Masters were appointed in the New Order, officers of the Order were once more tested and proved loyal following assaults by both Chief of State Jacen Solo and Natasi Daala. During the Second Galactic Civil War, the security forces retreated with the Order to the Jedi Outpost on Endor to aid in the protection of the Initiates there. Years later in 43 ABY the security of the Temple was still active as new security measures were put in place to protect against invasion. During the incident at the Temple caused by Jysella Horn's Force psychosis, Security was called to the Jedi Archives and the main entrance to capture her. However, using a form of flow-walking, Horn escaped.

In Star Wars: Battlefront II, the Temple Security Forces are featured in the Knighfall mission of the Rise of the Empire campaign. Within the game, the Temple Soldiers donned uniforms remarkably similar to those worn by soldiers of the Royal Naboo Security Forces, albeit in a completely gray color scheme and with slightly modified hats. Like the Naboo soldiers appearing in the next mission and in the previous game, they were armed with blaster rifles that bore a striking resemblance to the DH-17 blaster rifle and fired green bolts.
In Star Wars: The Old Republic, it was initially suggested that the Temple Security Force were members of the Republic Special Forces Division, but this has since been disproven. While the Republic Special Forces were not established until after the Treaty of Coruscant, the Temple Security Force was shown to exist (at the Sacking of Coruscant) before the treaty was ever signed.
