Jurokk

Jurokk was a Jedi Master of the Human male variety. By 22 BBY, he had achieved the position of Gate Keeper at the Jedi Temple located on the planet Coruscant, serving in this role throughout the Clone Wars. In 19 BBY, Anakin Skywalker, then a Jedi Knight, informed Jedi Master Mace Windu that Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was secretly Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith. Windu assigned Jurokk, along with Master Shaak Ti, to protect the Temple while Windu and three other Jedi went to arrest Palpatine. Sometime later, Jurokk encountered Skywalker near the Temple Gates, inquiring about the fate of the Jedi Masters. He then noticed thousands of clone troopers approaching the Temple behind Skywalker. Skywalker, however, had fallen to the dark side and become Sidious's apprentice, adopting the name Darth Vader. Vader then stabbed Jurokk through the head with his lightsaber, killing him and making him the first casualty of the subsequent massacre in the Jedi Temple.

Biography

Darth Vader, Jurokk's killer

Jurokk, a Human male Jedi Master, had achieved the rank of Gate Master by 22 BBY, a position within the Temple Security Force. In this capacity, he was responsible for overseeing the entrance of the Jedi Temple, situated on the planet Coruscant, the capital of the Galactic Republic. During 19 BBY, Jurokk attended a briefing given by Obi-Wan Kenobi where the ongoing Outer Rim Sieges were discussed. As the Clone Wars neared their conclusion, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker informed Jedi Master Mace Windu that Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was, in reality, Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith. Windu decided to arrest Sidious, taking Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, and Kit Fisto—three Jedi Masters—with him, while entrusting Jurokk and Master Shaak Ti with the Temple's defense.

Soon after, Jurokk noticed Skywalker on a monitor and quickly went to the Temple Gate. Jurokk inquired about the whereabouts of the four Jedi Masters, but Skywalker merely asked where Shaak Ti was. After the Gate Master mentioned that Ti was meditating in her quarters, he spotted thousands of clone troopers behind Skywalker and again demanded information about Windu's team. However, unbeknownst to Jurokk, Skywalker had assisted Sidious in defeating Windu, becoming the Dark Lord's apprentice and taking the name Darth Vader. Vader positioned his lightsaber under Jurokk's chin and activated it, killing the Gate Master instantly. Jurokk's final experience was hearing Skywalker saying that Jurokk had "no idea" about what was happening. Vader killed Jurokk without any remorse and started to kill most of the Jedi within the Temple.

Personality and traits

Jurokk sported a tattoo on the left side of his head.

Jurokk was considered trustworthy enough to oversee the Jedi Temple's defense in his role as Gate Master. Despite being attuned to the Force, Jurokk was unable to sense Skywalker's turn to the dark side, resulting in his death without any chance of defending himself. Jurokk was bald, possessed tan skin, and had a tattoo located on the left side of his head.

Behind the scenes

Jurokk's initial appearance was as a minor character within the 2005 Revenge of the Sith novelization, which was penned by Matthew Stover. Later, he was mentioned in The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force, written by Daniel Wallace during 2010. The endnotes for The Jedi Path erroneously identified Jurokk as having appeared within the Revenge of the Sith video game, a mistake Wallace later acknowledged. In 2012, Jurokk's appearance in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith was retconned via Rogues Gallery: The Last Stand of the Jedi!, an article featured in Star Wars Insider 137.
