Jedi outposts were structures established by the Jedi Order. Jedi Knights utilized these installations as temporary residences and study locations during their travels across the galaxy. During the High Republic Era, a network of these outposts was created throughout the planets found in the Outer Rim Territories. These outposts acted as operational hubs for Jedi exploring uncharted space and were the Order's primary method of engaging with Outer Rim residents, providing protection to at-risk populations. The design of each outpost was customized to harmonize with the local environment and cultural norms of its respective planet; as an example, the outpost on the waterworld of Mon Cala was a large, seafaring raft cultivated from coralite. Typically, each outpost housed between three and seven Jedi with varying levels of experience.
It was a common practice for Padawans to continue their Jedi training at these outposts scattered across the galaxy. Bell Zettifar was one such Padawan who was "outposted," being stationed at the Elphrona Outpost alongside his master Loden Greatstorm in the year 232 BBY.
Centuries later, a significant number of Jedi outposts were closed down due to being considered non-essential to the Jedi's mission, which left numerous planets susceptible to pirate activity. After the Great Jedi Purge, Luke Skywalker, a Jedi hopeful, encountered several outposts during his travels, including one on Tempes during the Galactic Civil War. Later, during the New Republic Era, he traveled to Elphrona outpost with his Padawan Ben Solo and explorer Lor San Tekka, where they came across the Knights of Ren.
