Tharben, a terrestrial planet, resided close to the border of Hutt Space within the Slice, specifically along the Ootmian Pabol. This planet was the location of a Jedi outpost belonging to the Jedi Order, and it also maintained a security patrol that received financial support from the Galactic Republic. The increase in criminal activity within the Slice led to guilds abandoning the Ootmian route, which in turn caused the Republic to cease its subsidies. Consequently, the Jedi outpost on Tharben was closed due to a lack of activity, as the Jedi were unwilling to leave the equipment there without supervision in such a volatile area. This situation resulted in a rise in pirate gang operations on the planet. With safety and security compromised, a significant number of Tharben's inhabitants chose to leave. During a debate among the Jedi High Council regarding the possible closure of the outpost on the planet Kwenn, Jedi Master Mace Windu brought up Tharben, along with Keldooine and Ord Jannak, mirroring the rationale that Master Adi Gallia had previously cited for the closure of those specific outposts.
