A Jedi outpost, a station of the Jedi Order, existed on the Outer Rim world of Mon Cala in the High Republic Era. To harmonize with the waterworld's unique ecosystem and society, this outpost was constructed as an enormous raft, cultivated from coralite, with kelp hanging below. This floating structure moved with the ocean currents, acting as a reef-like home for native sea life. In 232 BBY, Jedi Padawan Bell Zettifar, then serving at the Elphrona Outpost, mused that he would have preferred being assigned to Mon Cala, given the relatively severe conditions of the Outer Rim planet Elphrona.
Charles Soule mentioned the Mon Cala Jedi outpost in his 2021 novel, Light of the Jedi. This novel was part of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic project, a multimedia initiative.
