Savar

Savar was a captain serving in Galactic Alliance Security, identified as a male Human. He, along with a contingent of Security troops, apprehended Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker in 43.5 ABY due to a perceived neglect of duty. Subsequently, Savar escorted Skywalker to the Galactic Alliance Security blockhouse, although the Jedi's detention was short-lived. Later, Savar commanded Security forces under instructions from Chief of State Natasi Daala with the objective of capturing Jedi Knight Valin Horn, who had become a fugitive as a result of a psychotic breakdown. Skywalker ultimately apprehended Horn; following this, Savar and Skywalker came to an understanding that Horn should be confined within the Mon Mothma Memorial Medical Center, a secure establishment strategically positioned approximately equidistant from the Jedi and Galactic Alliance Security domains.

Biography

Savar, a male Human, held the rank of captain within Galactic Alliance Security stationed on Coruscant, the galactic capital. In the year 43.5 ABY, under directives from the government of the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, Savar secured the services of three bounty hunters: the Quarren inventor Dhidal Nyz, the Human hunter Zilaash Kuh, and the Skakoan hunter Hrym Mawarr. Savar spearheaded the team consisting of these hunters and a GA Security unit to take Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker into custody. The reason for this arrest was Skywalker's perceived failure to prevent Darth Caedus's, a Jedi Knight who turned into a Sith Lord, descent into the dark side of the Force. During the process of the arrest, Skywalker, who had the company of several other Jedi and former smuggler Han Solo, did not fully comply with Savar's expectations. Rather than surrendering his lightsaber to the Security personnel, he handed it to Jedi Knight Leia Organa Solo. As tensions rose, Han Solo directed insults towards Savar, causing Savar to become rigid.

Nyz, operating under the assumption that Skywalker was attempting to influence Savar using the Force, proclaimed that Skywalker was resisting arrest. One of Savar's troopers, identified as Bessen, reacted with panic and discharged his weapon. The shot missed its intended target, and Jedi Master Kam Solusar deflected it with his lightsaber. Solo responded by firing at Bessen's blaster, rendering it inoperable, which helped to regain control of the situation. Savar then proceeded to discipline Bessen, instructing him to perform physical exercises and run back to the barracks. Following this, Savar escorted Skywalker to the Galactic Alliance Security blockhouse. Savar experienced a sense of empathy for Skywalker, and even though he never outwardly showed any disagreement with Chief of State Natasi Daala's choice to arrest the Grand Master, Skywalker sensed Savar's feelings of regret through the Force.

Later, Savar commanded the Security forces dispatched by Daala to apprehend Jedi Knight Valin Horn, who had engaged in a destructive spree across Coruscant after experiencing a psychotic breakdown. Luke Skywalker, who had been released from the blockhouse, captured Horn. Savar issued an order for Skywalker to turn Horn over to the Security forces, but Skywalker proposed that Horn be taken to the Jedi Temple for study. Leia Organa Solo eventually proposed a compromise that both Skywalker and Savar accepted: Horn was placed in the Mon Mothma Memorial Medical Center, a secure facility situated approximately halfway between the Jedi Temple and the Senate Building. The agreement stipulated that six Jedi and six Security agents would study Horn, and no bounty hunters or members of the press would be granted access to the facility.

Personality and traits

Captain Savar was known as a stern and commanding officer who effectively wielded his authority over those under his command. He held high expectations for his troops, requiring them to operate with efficiency and adhere to his directives. Failure to meet these expectations often resulted in severe disciplinary actions. Savar also demonstrated a general aversion to interacting with bounty hunters. Skywalker perceived through the Force that Savar felt remorse regarding his order to arrest the Grand Master, though Savar never outwardly displayed this sentiment. His primary allegiance was to his duty and the execution of the orders he received. Following Horn's capture, Savar also exhibited a willingness to compromise. Despite initially demanding that Horn be handed over to the Security troops, he later concurred with Leia Organa Solo's suggestion to place Horn in the Mon Mothma Memorial Medical Center, a secure location positioned roughly equidistant between Jedi and Security jurisdictions. He was regarded by many as an astute leader, although Oric Harfard, a fellow Security captain, considered him to be lenient.

Behind the scenes

Savar's character was conceptualized by Star Wars author Aaron Allston for Fate of the Jedi: Outcast, his initial contribution to the nine-part Fate of the Jedi series, which was published in 2009.
