Born around 26 ABY, Bessen was a male Human. As a trooper serving within Galactic Alliance Security, he participated in the 43 ABY arrest of Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker, who faced charges related to dereliction of duty. During this apprehension, Bessen accidentally discharged his blaster towards Skywalker. The energy bolt missed its mark, and the situation was swiftly resolved. For this unauthorized action against the prisoner, Bessen's captain, Savar, penalized him by ordering him to return to the Security blockhouse by foot, while Savar transported Skywalker in a speeder.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, around 26 ABY, Bessen, a male Human, came into the world. He later became a trooper within the Galactic Alliance Security, a security organization based on Coruscant, the galactic capital. He served under the command of Security Captain Savar there. In 43.5 ABY, Bessen was involved in the arrest of Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker, who stood accused of failing to prevent Jacen Solo's, a former Jedi Knight, descent to the dark side of the Force. Accompanying the Security troopers were three bounty hunters hired by the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances: Hrym Mawarr, a Skakoan politician; Zilaash Kuh, a Human bounty hunter; and Dhidal Nyz, a Quarren inventor.
During the arrest procedure, Han Solo, a former smuggler present with Skywalker, offended Savar, causing the captain to react sharply. Nyz, presuming Skywalker was attempting to manipulate the captain with the Force, declared that the prisoner was resisting. Startled by the sudden disruption, Bessen lost control and inadvertently discharged his blaster at the Jedi. Skywalker evaded the energy bolt, and Kam Solusar, a Jedi Master also present during Skywalker's arrest, deflected the shot with his lightsaber. Solo quickly destroyed Bessen's weapon before he could fire again. As order was restored, Savar penalized Bessen for firing upon the prisoner, instructing Carn, a sergeant, to oversee him performing 200 push-ups before running back to the Galactic Alliance Security blockhouse on foot. Meanwhile, Savar and the other Security troopers transported Skywalker back to the blockhouse in the captain's personnel carrier speeder.
Bessen makes a brief appearance as a minor character in Fate of the Jedi: Outcast, the initial novel of the Fate of the Jedi series, penned by Aaron Allston.
