Kam Solusar's journey began as a Jedi Knight, took a dark turn as he embraced the dark side of the Force, but ultimately led him back to the light side thanks to the intervention of Luke Skywalker. Following this pivotal encounter with Skywalker, Kam became one of the initial pupils at the Jedi Praxeum situated on Yavin 4. Progressing in his training, he achieved the rank of Jedi Master and entered into marriage with fellow Jedi, Tionne. Furthermore, he served as the genetic source for the clone known as Alpha.

As the offspring of Ranik Solusar, a Jedi Master who met his end at the hands of Darth Vader, Solusar spent a considerable period evading Vader's Dark Jedi. Upon his discovery, Solusar endured torture that shattered his spirit, leading to his conversion to the dark side of the Force. His past memories were erased. After his training as a Dark Jedi, Emperor Palpatine handpicked him to be his personal warrior on Byss, making him part of the Dark Side Elite. On Vjun, Vill Goir imparted upon Solusar various lightsaber combat techniques.
Skywalker and Solusar's paths first crossed on Nespis VIII around 10.5 ABY. Perceiving immense power within Solusar, Skywalker resolved to redeem him. With great effort, Luke aided Solusar in breaking free from the dark side's influence, encouraging him to embrace the light side of the Force by restoring his memories. Now devoted to Skywalker, Solusar accompanied the Jedi Master to Ossus to support the Ysanna in their struggle against Imperial forces. He was appointed a general in the New Republic Defense Forces; after successfully defeating an Imperial army and two Dark Jedi, Solusar spearheaded a raid on the reborn Emperor's flagship, sabotaging its systems.

Following the clone Emperor's defeat, the two Jedi went their separate ways, only to reunite on Yavin 4 with the establishment of the Jedi Praxeum in 11 ABY. Despite being older than his fellow Jedi hopefuls, Solusar proved to be among Skywalker's most gifted students, ultimately earning the title of Jedi Knight.
During his time on Yavin 4, Solusar developed a romantic connection with Tionne, a Jedi historian and musician. They were wed in 18 ABY.
The bond between Solusar and Skywalker deepened to the extent that Skywalker entrusted him with officiating his Jedi wedding to Mara Jade in 20 ABY. He presided over the first wedding ceremony, and at the second ceremony he aided in suppressing attackers to ensure its continuation.
Whenever Skywalker had to leave the Praxeum to address conflicts across the galaxy, he designated Solusar as the Academy's administrator.
Solusar firmly believed that the light side represented the only true aspect of the Force, viewing the dark side as merely its insubstantial imitation.
During the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, Kam and Tionne assumed the critical role of protecting the Academy's young Jedi students. When the Peace Brigade launched an assault on the Academy in the invasion's second year, Kam shielded the children, ensuring their safety until Anakin Solo and Talon Karrde arrived. The children were evacuated aboard the Wild Karrde, and subsequently the Errant Venture, which forged a path to a new sanctuary at the forgotten Maw Installation. Kam and Tionne also explored the Deep Core in search of an alternative location for a Jedi base, ultimately selecting the world of Eclipse.

Following the evacuation of Eclipse, Kam and Tionne remained with the Academy students throughout the war, far from the battle lines. Upon the Yuuzhan Vong conflict's conclusion, Kam proposed that Skywalker reestablish the Jedi Academy and New Jedi Order on the ancient world of Ossus, a suggestion Skywalker embraced. Subsequently, Kam became a member of the Jedi High Council.
During the Second Galactic Civil War, Kam and Tionne served as caretakers of the Academy on Ossus. Following the passing of Mara Jade Skywalker, many Jedi Masters departed for Coruscant to attend her funeral, leaving Kam and Tionne in charge of a small group of Jedi Knights and Padawans. Jacen Solo, who had by then adopted the Sith title of Darth Caedus and seized control of the Alliance, dispatched members of the Galactic Alliance Guard to Ossus, ostensibly to safeguard the Academy from terrorists, but in reality to control the Jedi by threatening the Padawan learners. Kam and Tionne found themselves unable to prevent this.
When the Jedi later abandoned the Galactic Alliance, Darth Caedus ordered the execution of the Masters and Knights. Some were incapacitated with coma gas, while others were shot by GAG snipers, and the Padawans were gathered in an open area. Kam and the remaining Jedi were compelled to remain hidden, observing the situation to understand its full scope.
Tionne Solusar, however, decided to confront the Major overseeing the operation, Salle Serpa. Serpa began shooting off her limbs with a blaster, hoping to lure the remaining Jedi out of hiding. Kam eventually emerged from his hiding place, only to be struck by three sniper shots, resulting in severe injuries.
Against all odds, Kam survived all three chest wounds and began his recovery on Endor alongside Tionne.
Shortly after the conclusion of the Second Galactic Civil War, Jedi Jaden Korr unearthed an old Imperial cloning facility, which housed a deranged clone of Kam Solusar named Alpha.
Kam was among the Jedi accompanying Grand Master Luke Skywalker when members of Galactic Alliance Security and a group of bounty hunters arrested him in 43 ABY. Kam ignited his lightsaber, deflecting several stray blaster bolts into the ground to protect Luke and the others. Skywalker was compelled to accept a deal with Chief of State Natasi Daala, which resulted in his exile from Coruscant and a prohibition from interfering in Jedi affairs. In his stead, Daala appointed Kenth Hamner as interim Grand Master of the Jedi Order and head of the Council.
Master Solusar and the other Council members quickly grew dissatisfied with Hamner's ineffective leadership and his policy of appeasing the hostile Daala. While the Master's Solusar were not present for the actual vote of no confidence in Hamner's leadership, a majority of the Council members were and all voted to relieve the Grand Master of his position, as well as his seat on the Council. It is likely they would have voted to oust Hamner anyway however, as the entirety of the Council was said to be unsatisfied with his leadership.
After Hamner died after attacking Master Saba Sebatyne, Masters Cilghal and Corran Horn attempted to convince her to take up the role of interim Grand Master in his place. Sebatyne believed they should summon the Solusar's and did not want to take up the mantle, however, the pair were busy running evacuation drills. Saba eventually reluctantly bowed to the Council's wish that she act as their leader.
Kam and Tionne Solusar assisted in the evacuation of all Jedi students and their families from Ossus to Shedu Maad, although one vessel was destroyed by the Sith.
Kam Solusar possessed extensive training in the Force and lightsaber combat, initially as a member of the Dark Side Elite and later under Luke Skywalker's guidance. He demonstrated his prowess as a duelist by defeating his dark side instructor, Vill Goir, and as a Jedi Master, he could hold his own in sparring matches against skilled duelists like Corran Horn.
Solusar was initially intended to debut in the graphic novel Lightsider, set between Dark Empire I & II, but the project faced cancellation. Consequently, he made a sudden appearance in Dark Empire II without a backstory, aside from a mention of his father. In The Jedi Academy Trilogy, it's mentioned that he was defeated by Luke Skywalker in the game of Lightsider, which led to his return from the dark side. The encounter between the two is documented in the Dark Empire II audio drama.
