Star Wars: The Jedi Academy Trilogy

Star Wars: The Jedi Academy Trilogy is a series of three books authored by Kevin J. Anderson and brought to publication by Bantam Spectra. These books were released between February 1994 and September 1 of that same year. The titles included in this trilogy are Jedi Search, Dark Apprentice, and Champions of the Force.

The narrative of these books centers on Luke Skywalker's endeavor to revive the Jedi Order on Yavin 4, along with his quest to locate potential individuals to become Jedi.

The trilogy presents several interconnected storylines. The central plot revolves around the spirit of Exar Kun, who attempts to corrupt Luke's Jedi students. He succeeds in killing one of them and corrupting Kyp Durron, who then embarks on a destructive path using the Sun Crusher. Ultimately, the Jedi trainees vanquish Kun, and Han Solo helps Kyp return to the light side.

The subsequent novel, I, Jedi, serves as a retcon that revises many of the events that took place at the Jedi academy. It introduces Corran Horn into the narrative and resolves inconsistencies with later established continuity.

Development

Originally, the outline for the Jedi Academy Trilogy had Mon Mothma succumbing to her infection, but Lucasfilm ultimately decided against this plot point. To promote the upcoming Science Fiction Book Club edition of the Jedi Academy trilogy, which was released as an omnibus hardcover in November 1994, Bantam Spectra (the series' publisher) created a TV commercial for the series.
