Royal Onderon Militia
The Royal Guard of Onderon, also referred to as the Iziz city guard, and later known as the Royal Onderon Militia, functioned as the bodyguard contingent responsible for protecting the King of Onderon.
History
Republic and Sith conflict
Around 3627 BBY, a political schism caused a division within the Royal Guard, with a segment of the force acting as protectors of the capital city of Iziz under the authority of the Noble council and the Galactic Republic. Simultaneously, other members supported King Petryph, aligning themselves with the Sith Empire, enemies of the Republic.
Clone Wars
Following the removal of King Ramsis Dendup, General Tandin, who commanded the Royal Onderon Militia, pledged the group's loyalty to the new king, Sanjay Rash. However, when Rash tried to execute Dendup publicly, Tandin turned the Royal Onderon Militia against Rash, rescuing Dendup and joining the Onderon rebels in opposition to Rash's rule, which was supported by General Kalani and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Subsequently, they allied with the rebels in the Onderon highlands, serving as a cavalry force against the droid invasion. Initially, their use of lances and mounts allowed them to overwhelm the battle droid forces, demonstrating their effectiveness as soldiers. However, their lances proved ineffective against the Confederacy's superior air power. Later, two guards escorted the king during an attempted escape, only to be pursued by Commando Droids. They engaged the droids, but their short-range lance attacks could not penetrate the droids' armor quickly enough, resulting in their deaths.
Equipment
During the Clone Wars, the guards were equipped with laser lances and wore lightweight armor. Furthermore, they utilized mounts for combat.
