Ruwan Tokai
Ruwan Tokai served the Galactic Empire as a male Human technical sergeant. During the Galactic Civil War, he found himself stationed at the Great Temple of the Massassi situated on Yavin 4. One year following the Battle of Yavin, specifically in 1 ABY, Sergeant Tokai conducted an examination of a fragment originating from the DS-1 Orbital Battle Station. This Imperial battle station, approximately the size of a moon, was more commonly known as the Death Star. Tokai dispatched a courier with the fragment for a warrant officer to analyze further. However, this act placed Sergeant Tokai in danger of a court-martial because handling Death Star wreckage exceeded his authorized security level. To circumvent potential punishment, Sergeant Tokai managed to secure a "retroactive authorization" from his commanding officer, effectively granting him permission after the fact to have inspected the piece from the massive Imperial warship.
Biography
During the era of the significant galactic conflict known as the Galactic Civil War, a male Human technical sergeant in the service of the Galactic Empire, named Ruwan Tokai, lived. This was a time when the Alliance to Restore the Republic achieved a crucial victory over the Galactic Empire at the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY. Approximately 6 months subsequent to this battle, the Rebel Alliance evacuated the moon called Yavin 4. By around 1 ABY, Sergeant Ruwan Tokai, along with other Imperial officers, received orders to report to the Great Temple of the Massassi, a location that the Rebels had previously used as their operational headquarters.
While stationed at the temple, Sergeant Tokai came across a piece that had broken off from the destroyed DS-1 Orbital Battle Station, which was the moon-sized Imperial battle station more famously known as the Death Star. The fragment from the Death Star was an unidentifiable section of durasteel, possibly a piece of hull from the destroyed warship. While examining the piece, the sergeant voiced his displeasure with the effects of the humidity of Yavin 4's jungle environment on their equipment. The Death Star fragment, for example, was covered in moss. However, any attempt to clean the piece carried the risk of removing crucial chemical traces that could aid the Imperials in understanding what had happened to the Death Star.
To facilitate a more thorough examination of the fragment, Sergeant Ruwan Tokai dispatched a courier to deliver it to a warrant officer II for additional analysis. After the courier delivered the fragment to the warrant officer in the nearby Ersham Ridge area, the officer expressed surprise that the technical sergeant had been permitted to examine it in the first place. The Empire had classified all salvage from the Death Star as a restricted secret. Raising concerns, the warrant officer stated his intention to investigate Sergeant Ruwan Tokai's security clearance level. The courier then returned to Sergeant Tokai, informing him of the warrant officer's suspicions and collecting payment from Sergeant Tokai's equipment restoration budget. The technical sergeant asserted that he had not been informed that Death Star salvage was classified and expressed his hope that this oversight would not lead to negative consequences for him.
Regrettably for Ruwan Tokai, his greatest concerns materialized when he received notification that he was at risk of facing a court-martial for examining the Death Star piece, an act that exceeded his security clearance. Fearing the possibility of being sent to the Spice Mines of Kessel, Sergeant Tokai desperately pleaded with his courier to obtain a "retroactive authorization" from his commanding officer, a man holding the rank of lieutenant colonel within the Imperial Military. Despite the danger involved in traversing a known Rebel-infested area of Ersham Ridge, the courier agreed to assist the panicked sergeant. Although the courier was attacked by a Rebel first lieutenant and two of their commandos, the courier managed to kill them off, and successfully reach Ruwan Tokai's superior officer. Fortunately for Sergeant Tokai, his superior was understanding of his situation, and dismissed it as an understandable little slip-up. With the retroactive authorization procured, the courier returned to a grateful Ruwan Tokai, who paid the loyal Imperial servant out of his own funds. Free to continue his service to the Empire, Sergeant Ruwan Tokai then remembered that the warrant officer had also examined the same Death Star piece. Tokai hoped that he would not get into the same kind of trouble as he did.
Personality and traits

Ruwan Tokai possessed light-toned skin, brown hair, and eyes of a blue-colored hue. During his time at the Great Temple, Ruwan Tokai expressed his strong dislike for the jungle moon's high humidity. Nevertheless, he continued to perform his assigned duties, sometimes with unforeseen and negative outcomes. When Sergeant Tokai faced the threat of a court-martial for examining a Death Star piece that was beyond his authorized security level, he became panicked and implored his courier to obtain a retroactive authorization from his superior. Ruwan Tokai displayed a generous nature to some degree. He ensured that the courier received compensation for carrying out tasks, drawing funds either from his designated budget or from his personal savings.
Equipment
While stationed at the Great Temple on Yavin 4, Ruwan Tokai wore the standard Imperial officer's uniform. This uniform included grey tunic and trousers, a cap adorned with an officer's disc, a black belt featuring a silver-colored buckle, black boots, and black gloves.
Behind the scenes
Sergeant Ruwan Tokai appeared as a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game created by Sony Online Entertainment and released by LucasArts, before it was shut down on December 15, 2011. Players who completed a set of quests for Tokai were required to deliver a Death Star fragment to a warrant officer and obtain a retroactive authorization from a lieutenant colonel. Completing the first quest rewarded the player with 40 credits, while completing the second quest earned the player 50 credits. Although players had the option to decline Tokai's quests, this article assumes that the game was completed to its fullest extent. Ruwan Tokai was one of the few NPCs in Star Wars Galaxies for whom a clear quest timeline could be established. In his initial quest, he referenced the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred "last year," indicating a quest timeline around 1 ABY.
