S-4QD remained as the sole droid on Tilnes as of 31 BBY. By then, electromagnetic pulses from the moon had caused him to power down ninety-three separate times. On nineteen occasions, his memory had been completely erased, and on two occasions his photoreceptors had become dislodged from his head. He was no longer able to definitively state his mission on Tilnes, and even questioned whether S-4QD was indeed his true designation.
Originally, S-4QD, a protocol droid, had been dispatched to Tilnes as a representative of the droids of Uffel. Although the droids quickly concluded that Tilnes offered no viable future for droids, 4QD was left behind in an advisory role. Ultimately, he became known for interjecting irrelevant and obscure facts into conversations, never advancing the discussion. He was a cantankerous droid who constantly expected that the next electromagnetic pulse would be his last.
