In the year 9 ABY, a sign displaying the menu inscribed using the Aurebesh alphabet at the fictional eatery called The Restraining Bolt, which existed within the Mos Espa Waystation location, a combat zone inspired by the planet of Tatooine situated inside the Grand Arena on the world of Vespaara, indicated that the premises welcomed both banthas and sand cats as patrons.
The existence of sand cats is acknowledged within the official Star Wars canon through their inclusion in the video game Star Wars: Hunters. This game, a product of NaturalMotion's BossAlien studios and distributed by Zynga, initially launched as a soft release on November 16, 2021, before its worldwide debut on June 4, 2024. The reference to sand cats was incorporated into the game following the introduction of Mos Espa Waystation as a playable arena on March 7, 2023. In the Star Wars Legends expanded universe, the sand cat species was first referenced within the pages of the 2004 novel titled MedStar I: Battle Surgeons, penned by authors Michael Reaves and Steve Perry.
