The Sanyassa system existed within the Outer Moddell systems, a part of the Moddell subsector. This subsector was one of several subsectors that comprised the Inner Zuma Region of the Outer Rim Territories' Zuma sector. Specifically, its location was along the hyperlane route called the Bakura Trace, providing a connection to both the Endor and Ast Kikorie systems.
This system was the location of the planet Sanyassa IV, a lawless planet and the original homeworld of the Sanyassan species. Sanyassa IV held the fourth orbital position in its system, requiring 389 local days for a single orbit, and supported a population of one billion natives. At least one Sanyassan, Bar'injar, had ventured beyond Sanyassa IV and into the Core Worlds by 3963 BBY.
The initial mention of Sanyassa IV occurred in the article titled "Endor and the Moddell Sector." Craig Robert Carey, Daniel Wallace, and Jason Fry were the authors, and it appeared in the ninth issue of the Star Wars Gamer magazine, which was released on February 22, 2002. The reference book The Essential Atlas, published in 2009 and written by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, officially named the system and pinpointed its location at grid square H-16.
