The Special Edition re-release of the 1977 movie Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope in 1997 saw the creation of Sarkese. The 2019 video "Every Language in Star Wars Movies," from the Star Wars By the Numbers series by StarWarsKids.com, identified the film's language as Sarkese. Within the Star Wars Legends storyline, the Sarkan species' native language, Sarkese, appeared in the 2003 Star Wars Roleplaying Game supplement Ultimate Alien Anthology by Wizards of the Coast; notably, this was never linked to the language heard in A New Hope in that continuity.
