The Scarabi were a band of hired guns, or mercenaries, active throughout the time of the Imperial Era. Under the leadership of Hachi, a Scarabi team kidnapped Mon Mothma, the leader of the Rebel Alliance, on the planet of Uveron. Their plan involved turning her over to entities like the Galactic Empire if the Rebellion didn't provide a substantial ransom. Lando Calrissian, who was undergoing a trial with Mothma participating remotely as one of the magistrates, identified Hachi from the sound of her voice. Since Calrissian had previously negotiated with the Scarabi, he possessed knowledge of several of their secure locations, and he shared the kidnappers' identities with the rebel Chewbacca. Given that Calrissian's attorney, Salli Georgio, likely knew about his history with the Scarabi, he began to believe that she was the true mastermind behind the kidnapping, hoping to benefit his legal situation.
