Landonis Balthazar Calrissian

Landonis Balthazar Calrissian, more commonly known as Lando Calrissian, was a human smuggler, gambler, and businessperson. He rose to the position of Baron Administrator for Cloud City, and later became a general in the Rebel Alliance. Born on the planet Socorro, he originally owned the Millennium Falcon, but lost it to Han Solo during a sabacc game held on Numidian Prime. Following this loss, Calrissian left his smuggling days behind, becoming an entrepreneur. He established a small mining venture on the planet Lothal before ultimately governing Cloud City, which floated in the skies above Bespin.

During the time of the Galactic Civil War, Darth Vader made his way to Cloud City with the intention of setting a trap for his son, Luke Skywalker. To facilitate this, the Dark Lord of the Sith manipulated Calrissian into betraying a group of Rebels, including Solo and Princess Leia Organa, delivering them into Vader's grasp. Although Vader assured that Cloud City would remain free from Imperial occupation, Calrissian felt the agreement was unfairly altered, making it unbearable. Consequently, Calrissian informed the populace about the Galactic Empire's presence and the imminent occupation, ordering an evacuation. He then assisted the Rebels in their attempt to rescue Solo, who had been frozen in carbonite, from the clutches of Boba Fett, but the bounty hunter successfully escaped.

Calrissian then chose to join the Rebel Alliance, embarking on a mission to locate Solo. After finding him within the palace of Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine, Calrissian participated in his rescue. The Rebels then returned to their fleet, and Calrissian was promoted to general. He volunteered to command the assault on the DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station during the Battle of Endor. During this pivotal battle, he piloted the Millennium Falcon into the core of the battle station, firing the shot that resulted in its destruction.

In the years of peace that followed the dissolution of the Empire, Calrissian started a family and became the father of a daughter named Kadara Calrissian. Tragically, while still an infant, his daughter was abducted by the First Order. Six years later, he began a quest with Luke Skywalker to the desert world of Pasaana, seeking answers regarding the growing darkness within the Force, but their efforts proved fruitless. Seeking solace from these painful memories, Calrissian chose to reside on Pasaana, living a reclusive life where he was known as the "Hermit" by the local Aki-Aki people of Lurch Canyon. He lived alone for a number of years, maintaining contact with the Solo family, and was later approached by Organa's Resistance, who sought his help in the war against the First Order.

In 35 ABY, Lando assisted the Resistance and was reunited with his longtime friend, Chewbacca. Calrissian played one final, crucial part in the struggle for galactic freedom by leading a gathered Citizens' Fleet to reinforce the Resistance during the battle on Exegol, which resulted in a decisive victory for the Resistance.

Various schemes and journeys

Young Landonis Calrissian

Landonis Balthazar Calrissian, a member of the ill-fated Calrissian family and also known as "Lando" Calrissian, entered the world born on the planet Socorro. As a young man, he became both a smuggler and a gambler, excelling particularly in the card game sabacc. He journeyed across the galaxy and served as the pilot of a freighter named the Millennium Falcon, which he won in a sabacc game on the gas giant Bespin. This ship frequently saved his life. At some point before 10 BBY, Lando won a subtropical moon located in the Oseon Belt during a sabacc game. Lando also formed a partnership with L3-37, a uniquely constructed self-made piloting droid.

During his time working with L3, Lando almost lost her to a Hutt after a poor bet during a sabacc game on Gonda. At one point, Calrissian was involved in an incident with a Dawinian and their companion. He also encountered the Tonnika sisters, and even taught Brea Tonnika how to operate the Falcon's controls. On another occasion, Brea and Senni Tonnika intentionally made a mess of their room on the city-world of Coruscant to get back at Calrissian. At some point, Calrissian met a droid mechanic who worked on the Mid Rim planet Kijimi, and this mechanic later owed Calrissian a favor.

Sometime before the Battle of Yavin, Lando and L3-37 were ambushed in the Halthor sector when an Imperial interdictor suddenly appeared from hyperspace. As a result of this ambush, Calrissian lost most of his shipment of walkers, which he had acquired from an Er'Kit arms dealer in the Noonian sector. Lando also had dealings with Crimson Dawn on Felucia, ultimately settling his debt to both Crimson Dawn and its leader, Dryden Vos. On another occasion, Calrissian visited Pantora and successfully persuaded Imperial Vice Grand Administrator Prita Sven to allow him to depart the planet with a freighter filled with poached forlyn carcasses.

Delivering an artifact

Landonis meets with Queen Forsythia Jin.

At some point, Calrissian and L3-37 were arrested for smuggling and subsequently sent to the planet Hynestia. There, Queen Forsythia Jin of Hynestia requested that Lando and L3 deliver an artifact to the Galactic Empire as compensation for a failed gherlian fur delivery. However, Princess Rinetta Gan learned from her teacher, Zel Gris, about the artifact's true purpose. It was intended to serve as an energy source to compensate for the lack of sunlight on the planet Livno III, without which Livno III would face ruin. After sneaking onto the Millennium Falcon as a stowaway, Rinetta attempted to force Calrissian and L3 to follow her new orders, but her plan failed when Calrissian traveled to Neral's moon to settle a debt with Ne'eda Frip. The exchange went awry, and although he escaped, he was recaptured by Queen Forsythia. The Queen then imprisoned Calrissian and L3. Rinetta freed them again, seeking their help to return the artifact to Livno III. They escaped Hynestia and had to defeat Ne'eda's starships before jumping to Livno III. After returning the artifact, they brought Princess Rinetta back to Hynestia, where Queen Forsythia pardoned Calrissian and L3.

Freeing slaves

Landonis meeting with Kristiss

Later, Calrissian smuggled weapons to Petrusia after the Empire seized control of it. Following this operation, Calrissian considered transforming the Falcon into a casino, despite L3's reservations. He also began writing the Calrissian Chronicles to showcase his talent to the galaxy. Calrissian and L3 took the Falcon to Batuv, where he attempted to purchase a new cape from Borkus until he encountered the bartender Kristiss. She informed Calrissian about the plight of her people and their status as slaves at the Imperial outpost on Kullgroon. Kristiss requested his assistance in arming her people, offering 1,000 credits upfront. Despite his initial hesitation, Calrissian decided to speak with her and share a drink.

Calrissian was confronted by Brushaun, who believed that Calrissian had cheated him out of 2,000 credits in a card game on Canto Bight. Kristiss intervened, saving Calrissian by offering him the credits to repay Brushaun, along with more if he would help her people. After discussing the mission with L3 and knowing the danger involved, Calrissian accepted Kristiss' mission. En route to Kulgroon, the Falcon was attacked by several TIE fighters. Calrissian and L3 managed to lead the TIEs to a moon, where they were able to eliminate them before arriving at Kullgroon.

Landonis arrives at Wastelands of Kullgroon aboard the Millennium Falcon

To sneak past the Empire, Calrissian powered down the Falcon to make it appear as space junk. As the Falcon entered Kullgroon's atmosphere, he and L3 piloted the ship into the wastelands. Calrissian, Kristiss, and L3 then made their way toward the camp. After Kristiss was captured by stormtroopers, Calrissian considered abandoning the mission, but L3 convinced him to stay. He was then attacked by outlaws and starfighters. Calrissian found an abandoned starfighter and attempted to evade them, but he was shot down and taken prisoner by the outlaws.

Landonis about to fight Murkel Kev, Cantor Zain, Kawal Trane, and Siswan in a arena battle.

The outlaws' leader, Batalla, recognized Calrissian from the Calladus Festival, where he had taken the majority of the Zakku Rain Cartel's credits. Calrissian claimed he had actually won Batalla's prize Sharropon. He attempted to convince Batalla that he was on vacation and visiting a friend. Batalla considered handing Calrissian over to one of his enemies for a large sum of credits and had him taken to a jail cell. When a droid arrived with food, Calrissian tricked and disabled it. As he escaped, Calrissian contacted L3 for a pick-up. However, L3 was searching for Kristiss. He encountered Batalla's outlaws, who threw him into an arena where he fought against several members of the Zakku Rain Cartel, Murkel Kev, Cantor Zain, Kawal Tane, and Siswan, until L3 and the Falcon arrived. Despite Calrissian's protests, L3 insisted on picking up Kristiss. As the Falcon came under attack by an indigenous creature, Calrissian and L3 managed to steer past it. He contacted Kristiss to arrange the weapons drop-off before L3 detected several TIEs approaching the Falcon.

Landonis leads Petrusian slaves against stormtroopers

Calrissian flew the Falcon low into the wastelands' canyon, hoping to trick the TIEs into believing that the Falcon had crashed. He caused an explosion that sealed off the canyon from the TIEs and then took the Falcon to a sewage expulsion port. As he made his way through the port, Calrissian encountered and shot at several creatures. He was then confronted by the creatures' mother, but managed to kill it. Calrissian reached a control station and instructed L3 to hack into the mainframe to find Kristiss and disable security monitors on Levels 7 to 9. Calrissian met up with Kristiss and her father. Despite their reluctance to engage in warfare, Calrissian rallied the other Petrusians to take up arms against the Empire. Calrissian and the slaves escaped to the sewage port and met up with the Falcon. After arming themselves, Calrissian and Kristiss led the slaves against the stormtroopers.

Landonis fighting alongside L3 on Kullgroon

Calrissian and the Petrusians battled the outpost's stormtroopers. When L3 informed him that more TIEs were returning to the outpost, Calrissian believed it was time to retreat as the Petrusians were losing the battle. However, Kristiss reactivated hundreds of derelict droids to help them win. Calrissian and Rythus charged the stormtroopers and saved Kristiss from them. He and Kristiss used a cord to swing over the stormtroopers. He met up with L3 and saw the stormtroopers taking the Falcon. After the battle, Calrissian and L3 met up with Kristiss and the slaves as they boarded an Imperial shuttle. He accepted a ride from Kristiss and her father, who gave him his payment. Calrissian learned from L3 that the Falcon had been taken and impounded on Vandor. A week later, Calrissian and L3 found the Falcon on Vandor, where he decided to retire early and play sabacc at the Lodge.

Coaxium heist

During Lando's retirement on Vandor, Qi'ra, an old acquaintance of his, and her comrades, Tobias Beckett, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, needed a fast ship to steal unrefined coaxium from the Pykes on Kessel for Vos. Qi'ra suggested they seek out Calrissian, and the group found him hustling bar patrons at sabacc by hiding a card up his sleeve. Solo joined the game, and the stakes quickly escalated to Lando's Falcon against Solo's VCX-100 light freighter. Solo produced an impressive hand that elicited applause from the other patrons, but Calrissian revealed a superior hand by cheating. Calrissian inquired about Solo's ship, but Qi'ra intervened, explaining the situation. Calrissian agreed to pilot the Falcon for the heist in exchange for 25% of the profits, which Beckett negotiated down to 20%.

Landonis and L3-37 about to jump to lightspeed.

After jumping to hyperspace, L3-37 plotted a course to Kessel, which she implemented after scolding Calrissian for flirting with Solo instead of focusing on flying. On Kessel, Calrissian remained aboard the Millennium Falcon during the heist and continued updating his autobiography. When Solo, Qi'ra, Chewbacca, Beckett, and L3 returned with the coaxium, Calrissian provided covering fire against the Pykes until L3 was shot. Calrissian attempted to save L3 but was shot in the arm, requiring Solo and Chewbacca to rescue him and L3. Aboard the Falcon, L3 died in Calrissian's arms, leaving him distraught. Due to his injury, Calrissian reluctantly allowed Solo to pilot the Falcon off Kessel.

As they departed Kessel, the crew encountered an Imperial blockade, forcing Solo to divert his course into the dangerous maelstrom. Calrissian retrieved L3's central processor and plugged it into the Falcon's navicomputer to plot a course out of the maelstrom, where navigation was otherwise impossible. The Falcon crew encountered a massive space creature and the Maw, a powerful gravity well. Solo launched the Falcon's escape pod into the gravity well, causing the creature to follow it and become trapped. The Falcon itself became trapped in the gravity well, only escaping when Beckett used a drop of coaxium to provide the necessary power.

Savareen and departure

Landonis on Savareen.

Upon arriving at the refinery on [Savareen](/article/savareen] to refine the coaxium, Calrissian was furious with Solo over the damage sustained by his beloved ship, despite their miraculous escape. He abandoned the others in the Falcon when Enfys Nest and her Cloud-Riders arrived on Savareen to confront Beckett.

Losing the Falcon

Landonis on Numidian Prime.

Solo and Chewbacca later pursued Calrissian to Numidian Prime, where he was, as usual, fleecing people at sabacc. When greeting Calrissian, Solo discreetly took his extra card, and then won the Falcon in a subsequent game, departing with it. The sabacc game on Numidian Prime wouldn't mark the final chapter of Solo and Calrissian's intertwined lives. On one occasion, they both traveled to a casino ship located on the Hydian Way, where they joined the Tonnika sisters for a party held on that starship. The Tonnika sisters remembered this event as the "Lando ordeal," which began as Solo's idea, but ultimately resulted in Solo blaming the sisters. Calrissian's associate, Lobot, also became familiar with Solo and his flying style.

Encountering Kaasha Bateen

Calrissian at some point crossed paths with Kaasha Bateen, who was a member of the Free Ryloth Movement during the Pasa Novo campaign, and the two developed romantic feelings for each other.

Collaboration with Vizago

Based on Azmorigan's suggestion, Vizago employed Calrissian to assist him in retrieving one of Maz Kanata's treasure troves, which was concealed on Seylott. On the planet, they faced Black Sun thugs who had secured the area. Calrissian managed to escape with the Smuggler's Guide by pretending to be merely hired help, claiming that Vizago and Azmorigan were the masterminds behind the operation. Afterward, he visited the Spiran mineral spas to relax and study the book. After he was beaten up by Esoomian brawler Bumblethunk, the Smuggler's Guide was then pilfered from him by a Rybet thief known as "Sticky Fingers" and eventually ended up in the hands of Latts Razzi.

After his loss of the Falcon, Calrissian ended his smuggling career. He began to consider himself a respectable businessman, referring to himself as a "galactic entrepreneur." At some point, Calrissian met a criminal named Azmorigan, who introduced him to Cikatro Vizago, a Devaronian crime lord who operated on the Outer Rim planet of Lothal.

Later on, Calrissian bought a plot of land from Vizago on Lothal, with intentions to begin mining for valuable minerals. To do this discreetly, avoiding the Empire's attention due to mining regulations, Calrissian planned to get a puffer pig from Azmorigan; puffer pigs could detect precious minerals and perform the work of a dozen mining scanners. He needed a ship capable of evading the Imperial blockade around the planet; Calrissian tried to smuggle mining equipment onto Lothal but was intercepted by the Empire.

Hiring the Spectres

Calrissian discovered such a ship while playing sabacc in Jhothal, a settlement located on Lothal. He played the game at Old Jho's Pit Stop, competing against Tsoklo and Garazeb Orrelios, the latter being a Lasat crew member on the Ghost, a ship operated by a rebel group on Lothal. Orrelios was confident in his hand and wagered his crew's astromech droid, C1-10P, but Calrissian won with an Idiot's Array. The droid, known as Chopper, then belonged to Calrissian, but he agreed to return the droid and pay the rebels a much-needed sum of credits if they assisted him with an operation—which, unbeknownst to them, involved acquiring the puffer pig. The crew was hesitant to trust Calrissian, but they needed the credits and wanted Chopper back, so they accepted the deal; Calrissian spent much of the time using a divide and conquer strategy, trying to play the rebels against each other so he could accomplish his goals. During the journey to meet Azmorigan, Chopper showed Calrissian around the ship, where he admired the artwork of Sabine Wren, a Mandalorian artist and a member of the crew. Calrissian used this as part of his strategy, complimenting the Mandalorian's work to make himself look good.

Landonis Calrissian aboard the Ghost

Once the Ghost arrived at the designated location, the ship docked with Azmorigan's vessel, Merchant One. Calrissian, along with the crew's leaders, Hera Syndulla and Kanan Jarrus, boarded Merchant One, and Calrissian instructed them to follow his lead. Calrissian also suggested that the ship had escape pods—a coded message to Syndulla, whom he intended to give to Azmorigan as payment for the puffer pig, knowing she would need a way to escape the vessel. Despite Jarrus' objections, Syndulla played along after Calrissian offered her to the crime lord, and Azmorigan gave Calrissian the puffer pig, secured in a crate. Calrissian and Jarrus returned to the Ghost, where Calrissian explained that he expected Syndulla to use an escape pod to leave Merchant One—which she did, returning to the Ghost and angering the crime lord. Once Syndulla was back on board, and had expressed her displeasure with Calrissian's betrayal with a knee to the groin, the Ghost jumped into hyperspace, leaving Azmorigan behind.

Calrissian showed the crew the puffer pig and warned them not to let it out of its cage, as it would grow into a larger creature if startled. Orrelios and fellow crew member Ezra Bridger accidentally released it, and the pig ran throughout the Ghost before becoming so startled that it grew in size and became lodged in one of the ship's hallways. This became problematic when the Ghost returned to Lothal, where they needed to pass through the Imperial blockade; Syndulla, the ship's pilot, was stuck on the other side of the pig, so Jarrus had to pilot the ship himself. Calrissian asked Chopper, who only obeyed Calrissian's commands, to fix the mechanism that would allow the Ghost to mask its signature and slip past the blockade. Chopper succeeded, and the ship nearly made it through, but the pig expanded again, knocking Orrelios into the controls that kept the ship's signature masked. The Empire detected the Ghost as a rebel ship and sent a squadron of TIE fighters in pursuit, which the Ghost destroyed.

Calrissian bids farewell to the Ghost.

The crew arrived at the farm that Calrissian had purchased from Vizago, where Calrissian explained his plan to use the puffer pig for mining. However, they were confronted by Azmorigan, who had anticipated Calrissian's return to the land. This led to a firefight between the rebels and Azmorigan's forces, which ended when Azmorigan threatened to kill Orrelios if they did not hand Calrissian over to him. Syndulla refused, and Chopper—who had stolen a crate of fuel for the Ghost and returned to the ship—fired the cannons on the Ghost at Azmorigan, allowing Orrelios to gain the upper hand and hold Azmorigan at gunpoint. Syndulla demanded that the crime lord leave, and he complied. With Azmorigan gone, Calrissian claimed he did not have the credits he owed the rebels, but he did return Chopper to them. Nonetheless, Syndulla considered Calrissian to be in her debt, though he kept secret that he knew Chopper had stolen the fuel, which was why he did not give them any credits. However, he believed he would one day encounter the rebels again.

Dealing with the Varluk Organization

Landonis finds out his Puffer pig has been stolen by the Varluk Organization.

Calrissian and Rikarda were en route to the planet Klonoid aboard the Stellar Sun. During the trip, his droid W1-LE, which he had left to watch over his puffer pig and the farm, informed him that the farm had been raided and his pig stolen. Calrissian discovered that the Varluk Organization was responsible and asked Rikarda to set course for their headquarters, located on Zyzar.

Upon arrival, Calrissian attempted to enter the headquarters through a window but was spotted by patrolmen. He stunned and shot the patrolmen, then changed into one of their uniforms. After entering the complex, he found all the rooms empty but eventually located his pig in a cage. While trying to free her, he was captured by more patrolmen and taken to the company's leader, Ango Croom.

Landonis rescuing his puffer pig

Croom explained to Calrissian that he was tired of waiting for him to repay his debt and decided to take matters into his own hands by stealing his pig. Calrissian then began to pull his pig away from the patrolmen, and the pig increased in size, knocking the patrolmen to the ground. As he escaped, Calrissian left a hologram showing the locations of raw materials in a room for the Varluk Organization to find, allowing Calrissian to repay his debt to the organization. Later, outside the complex, Rikarda picked him up on the Stellar Sun, and they escaped.

At some point, another puffer pig in Calrissian's possession, Petunia, needed to be sold by the smuggler because of her poor sense of smell, which failed to detect minerals. To sell the animal, Calrissian traveled to Lothal's Capital City Casino.

Returning a favor

Some time later, Calrissian encountered the rebels again. After the rebels destroyed the Sovereign, the personal Star Destroyer of Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, the Imperials increased security on Lothal. The rebels returned to Lothal after being away from the planet, and they were pursued by numerous Imperial agents, including Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith. Vader ordered that no ship could leave Lothal, prompting the rebels to contact Calrissian for help in smuggling them off-planet. He spoke to them via hologram, as he was not on Lothal, but agreed to help in exchange for three military-grade shield generators. With the deal made, Calrissian instructed his personal droid, W1-LE, to assist the rebels with the masking transponders that would trick the Empire into pursuing false signals from their stolen Imperial shuttle. The rebels successfully escaped Lothal.

Trouble on Tyegin

Calrissian and D'Lina aboard the Exas Jewell.

Calrissian later traveled to the planet Tyegin, where he participated in a high-stakes sabacc game held in the lead car of the Exas Jewell, a luxury train. During this time, Calrissian was impersonating the train's designer, Shen Kanton. The other players in the game were D'Lina, Prince Baj, and Rakan. Calrissian eventually won big. Calrissian planned to leave the Exas Jewel before anyone realized his true identity. However, the other players began to suspect his scheme, as Kenton, as the train's designer, was expected to ride to the end of the line and host a grand reception. Calrissian tried to talk his way out of the situation, but the conversation was interrupted by a sudden explosion at the front of the luxury train.

Calrissian hears the pirates explosion aboard the Exas Jewell.

A pirate gang consisting of Zira, Grillo, and Shelvy blasted through the door. Grillo then destroyed the train's controls, and the three pirates escaped on jetpacks with stolen riches. Before leaving, Zira invited Calrissian to join them, but he declined. After the pirates left, the people turned to Calrissian for leadership, still believing he was the train's designer. They decided to try and unhook the engine. The rest of the train stopped, while the engine continued moving.

Later, Calrissian instructed the people to grab whatever they could carry and move it all toward the train car's open front end to disrupt its magnetic field. Baj attempted to throw the train car's dealer droid out, but Calrissian stopped him. The large amount of stuff under the front of the train car created enough drag to slow it down. The large dining train car was still approaching rapidly. It crashed into the back of the other cars, sending the prince falling out of the train car. Calrissian then saved his life. When the Exas Jewel finally came to a halt, Tyegin's law enforcement arrived and rescued everyone.

Galactic Civil War

Watching the Battle of Yavin

Following the Battle of Yavin, where the Alliance to Restore the Republic destroyed the DS-1 Death Star Mobile Battle Station, Calrissian was playing a game of klikklak with Jaff Basan in the illegal casino owned by Luck Luck Freidal. Before the game, which Calrissian was confident he would win, could finish, the Empire raided the casino and shut it down. After going to a cantina to meet Lobot, Calrissian learned about the Battle of Yavin by watching a DarkNet recording leaked by the Rebels.

To his surprise, he saw the Millennium Falcon enter the battle. After asking to watch it again, he was certain that Solo was piloting the ship. Surprised that Solo was fighting for what he considered a lost cause, Calrissian toasted Solo before asking Lobot to shoot him if he ever tried to do something similar. Calrissian then sat, drinking beverages he could not afford at the time, contemplating what had motivated Solo to join the Rebels.

Working with Sana Starros

Landonis meeting with Sana Starros

Sana Starros and Calrissian journeyed to Coruscant to assist Starros in running a scam involving thirteen crates of Imperial weapons. Calrissian arranged for them to meet with an Imperial officer, where Sana claimed that Krawg pirates possessed the crates. She took 20,000 credits for more information, in addition to 5,000 that she received from the pirates for selling them one box.

After departing Coruscant, they traveled to the planet Tatooine, to the palace of Jabba Desilijic Tiure. There, Starros denied any past association with Calrissian and also reported for 20 thousand credits who had the thirteenth box of weapons. She had stolen it from Jabba herself, but she claimed that the Krawg had done it, successfully completing their transaction.

Upon leaving Tatooine, the smugglers were attacked by a Krawg ship that had discovered her deception. Eventually, the Empire arrested the pirates, and Calrissian and Starros managed to escape. They later went to Nar Shaddaa, where they had dinner before Calrissian departed.

Deal of a lifetime

Landonis lead an audacious heist to steal the Emperor's yacht Imperialis

Before becoming the administrator of Cloud City, Calrissian described himself as an opportunist trying to "make his way" in an uncaring universe. Calrissian earned a living by illegally acquiring and redistributing rare or valuable goods. However, due to Calrissian's gambling habits, he and his business partner Lobot were deeply indebted to dangerous individuals. After convincing Moff Ssaria, also known as the "fiend of Castell," to part with a valuable and expensive trinket, Calrissian met Lobot at a cantina. After a few drinks, Calrissian was informed that Papa Toren, the person who had loaned him money, was ready to see him. Calrissian intended to settle his debt by handing over the trinket to Toren, but the loan shark refused to honor their prior agreement. Instead of clearing the smuggler's debt, Toren offered to reduce Calrissian's debt by ten percent.

Outraged by the offer, Calrissian argued that it was not the deal they had agreed upon. Toren countered that if Calrissian had any issues with the deal, he should take it up with the Imperials, who had taken his property in the first place. Toren argued that if Calrissian had used the time he was given to pay off the debt, he wouldn't be in his current predicament of owing a large sum of credits with little time to pay it off. The loan shark suggested that if the smuggler was serious about clearing his debt, he would do so, provided Calrissian agreed to do a job for him. After leaving the cantina, Calrissian and Lobot had a heated argument. Angry that Calrissian had accepted the deal and at Toren's audacity, Lobot argued that Calrissian should have stood up to Toren. Calrissian countered by explaining that only people without imagination use blasters. If they tried to harm Toren, a bounty would be placed on their heads, adding to their current problems.

Instead of resorting to violence to accept the deal, Calrissian insisted that the job would be quick. It would not only clear their debt but also put them ahead. Although Lobot was concerned about their dangerous lifestyle, Calrissian promised his friend that they would no longer accept high-stakes work after completing the job. After enlisting the services of Aleksin and Pavol, in case force was needed, Calrissian and Lobot went to speak to Sava Korin Pers, a former antiques dealer and professor. Calrissian attempted to make good on a promise to Korin, to repay her for the loss of her eye. Korin argued that she couldn't think of a reason why she would ever work with Calrissian again, until she saw Toren's plan and what they were going to steal. According to the plan, Calrissian and his company were to steal a pleasure craft being refitted at Sienar Fleet Systems Orbital Shipyard CC-24.

Following Toren's plan, Calrissian and his crew donned stealth suits and infiltrated the shipyard. They managed to overpower the stormtrooper sentries and escape in the stolen ship. After taking off, Calrissian and Lobot discussed the fact that the ship they had stolen seemed to be fairly advanced and specially modified. Lobot asked if his friend could activate the hyperdrive. Calrissian assured Lobot that he could do so only after the ship escaped the planet's gravity well. Unbeknownst to Calrissian and his crew, they had stolen the Emperor Palpatine's personal luxury yacht, Imperialis.

Imperial entanglements

Landonis and Lobot aboard the Imperialis

Before they could initiate a jump to hyperspace, the paths of Calrissian and Lobot were obstructed by a trio of Imperial Star Destroyers. The deployment of such significant Imperial resources surprised Calrissian, leading him to realize the extraordinary value of their vessel. Following the destruction of Shipyard CC-24 by the Imperial commander Commodore Idel for disrespecting the Emperor's assets, a pair of gravity mines were deployed to immobilize the yacht. However, the Imperialis's sophisticated automated defenses promptly vaporized the mines. Astonished, Calrissian then directed Lobot to activate the hyperdrive.

Subsequently, Korin confronted Calrissian, questioning the predicament he had led them into. Calrissian, observing the Imperials' use of gravity mines, concluded that their capture was desired due to the presence of something irreplaceable and invaluable on the ship. As two Star Destroyers ensnared the Imperialis in their tractor beams, Calrissian conceived a daring escape strategy. He instructed Lobot to input the tractor beam coordinates into the piloting computer. Despite Lobot and Aleksin's skepticism regarding Calrissian's plan to fly directly into the beams, Korin persuaded them to trust his judgment. Piloting the Imperialis, Calrissian skillfully redirected Captain Conro's Star Destroyer's tractor beam onto Captain's ship. This resulting collision inflicted damage upon both Star Destroyers, enabling Calrissian and his crew to escape into the vastness of space.

Following their evasion of the Star Destroyers, Lobot expressed his gratitude to Calrissian for his risky maneuver. Calrissian then suggested to Korin that they divide the Imperialis's treasures among themselves and gift the ship to Toren. Upon Calrissian's inquiry about their stolen goods, Korin revealed that the ship was brimming with treasure. After traversing the ship's corridors, they arrived at the Imperialis's central chamber. Lobot successfully gained access to the chamber using his cybernetic headset, only to be fatally impaled by a pair of Imperial Royal Guards.

As Lobot succumbed to his injuries, his implants began to assert control over his mind. With Korin's assistance, Calrissian transported the wounded Lobot to the ship's medical bay, while Aleksin and Pavol engaged the Royal Guards in combat using knives. Concurrently, the Emperor dispatched the bounty hunter Chanath Cha to reclaim his vessel. He provided her with the modified Star Courier Scimitar, capable of tracking the hyperspace signatures of starships. As Lobot recuperated within a bacta tank, Korin informed Calrissian of their encounter with Imperial Royal Guards. Based on the ship's lavish treasures and the Royal Guard's presence, Korin inferred that the stolen vessel belonged to the Emperor himself.

Ignoring Korin's warning, Calrissian insisted on aiding the twins. Calrissian and Korin located an armory and armed themselves with blasters. Upon returning to the central chamber, they discovered that Aleksin and Pavol had eliminated the Royal Guards. While Calrissian praised the twins, Korin noticed that the guards had been mysteriously corrupted by something within the valuable chamber. Calrissian and his companions discovered that the central chamber housed several Sith artifacts, including the ancient mask of Lord Momin. Unaware of the danger, Calrissian jokingly suggested that the treasures they found could compensate for Korin's lost eye.

Fall of the Sith

Chanath Cha, an individual familiar to both Landonis and Lobot from their past

Upon Calrissian's inquiry regarding the value of the treasures in the central chamber, Korin recognized the artifacts as belonging to the ancient Sith Lord Darth Momin, a Sith sculptor whose works were believed to be lost. As Calrissian and Korin discussed their plans to sell the merchandise, Aleksin became captivated by the Sith helmet. He seized a double-bladed lightsaber and sliced off his twin Pavol's lower right arm. Surprised by this sudden act, Calrissian and Korin managed to retreat from the central chamber and seal the door, leaving Pavol inside with the corrupted Aleksin.

Unfamiliar with the Sith and their history, Calrissian assumed that Aleksin had betrayed them. However, Korin posited that Aleksin had been corrupted by the Sith artifacts, based on her studies of Sith lore at the University of Bar'leth. She reasoned that the Royal Guards had been corrupted by their proximity to the Sith objects in the central chamber. Calrissian complimented Korin for her "fascinating" nature but dismissed the Jedi and Sith as mere superstition. His primary concern was that one of his team members had become deranged and severed the arm of his companion. Calrissian also expressed his desire to re-enter the chamber and assist Pavol.

Korin responded that she was abandoning the ship in an escape pod, expressing surprise at Calrissian's newfound concern for others. Unbeknownst to Calrissian and his companions, Cha had infiltrated the ship, being a former romantic interest of Lobot. When Calrissian objected to leaving Pavol behind, Korin cautioned him against underestimating the powers of the Sith. Calrissian remained steadfast in his refusal to abandon Lobot. Before their argument could escalate, they received an intercom message indicating that the Imperialis's escape pods had been disabled.

Despite Calrissian's protests, Korin proceeded to the bridge to reactivate the escape pods, only to be held at gunpoint by Cha, who had disabled them. Calrissian went to confront the intruder, discovering it to be Cha. After an embrace, Cha reprimanded Calrissian for stealing the Emperor's yacht, revealing that the Emperor had tasked her with either killing the thieves or destroying the ship. Cha warned Calrissian that the only cargo aboard the Imperialis was death.

Escaping the Imperialis

Landonis, Lobot, and Chanath present on the Imperialis

Remembering the Emperor's directives to eliminate the intruders or destroy the ship, Cha chose the latter option, unwilling to harm her former friend. Calrissian attempted to reason with her, but she brandished her blaster, warning him that plans often lead to demise. Calrissian then sought to enlist Cha's help in dealing with Aleksin, suggesting that she allow Korin and him to escape in a few escape pods with some valuable items while she destroyed the ship. Cha rejected this proposal, citing Palpatine's likely detection of any valuable items appearing on the black market. Unwilling to risk repercussions from the Empire, Cha insisted on adhering to her plan. However, she agreed to transport Calrissian and Korin to any desired location aboard her ship.

Calrissian then mentioned his inability to remove Lobot from the bacta tank due to the risk of his implants taking control. He reminded Cha of her past relationship with Lobot, prompting her to reluctantly agree to help. However, they were then confronted by the corrupted Aleksin and Pavol, influenced by the Sith objects. Aleksin demanded that they vacate "his" ship or face death, to which Calrissian objected, asserting that the heist had been his idea. Aleksin then appealed to Korin, offering to share their treasures with her. Korin gazed into the Sith helmet and succumbed to corruption, volunteering to join forces with Aleksin and Pavol. However, Aleksin swiftly killed her with his double-bladed lightsaber.

Cha managed to seal the door panel and initiate the self-destruct countdown. She then instructed Calrissian to retrieve Lobot from the medical bay while she docked her ship. Calrissian successfully extracted Lobot from the bacta tank. Before they could reach the airlock, they were cornered by a lightsaber-wielding Aleksin. Employing his persuasive skills, Calrissian tricked Aleksin into deactivating his lightsaber before fatally shooting him. They then rendezvoused with Cha at the airlock. Despite defeating Pavol, the trio faced a new obstacle: the Scimitar's droid steward O-66 had abandoned Cha upon learning of her activation of the Imperialis's self-destruct mechanism.

With all seemingly lost, Lobot volunteered to connect his cyborg unit to an interface. Despite struggling and nearly succumbing to his implants, Lobot managed to override the control codes. Calrissian and Lobot departed in one escape pod, while Cha departed in the other. After escaping the Imperialis, Calrissian listened as Lobot advised him to utilize his charm and skills to pursue something greater than himself, urging him to use his talents for good.

Business success

Around 1 ABY, Calrissian achieved a significant victory in a card game, gaining control of Cloud City, a tibanna gas mining operation situated within the atmosphere of Bespin, the same location where he had previously won the Falcon. The "legitimate pilot and businessman" Gev Hessan smuggled goods to Calrissian, aiding him in the development of the city. Calrissian assumed the role of Baron Administrator of Cloud City, transitioning to more reputable ventures. As the leader of the mining operation, he maintained a scale small enough to evade detection by both the Empire and the Mining Guild, a strategy he deemed advantageous as his clientele preferred to avoid attracting attention.

Return to legitimate business

Calrissian arranged a meeting with Tonee to celebrate his newfound honest lifestyle. He was approached by an old acquaintance, Clariah, who sought his assistance in locating and mentoring her son, Jiandy, in becoming a legitimate businessman. As compensation, Clariah offered to return one of Calrissian's cherished capes. However, Calrissian declined, expressing his desire to focus on his business. Nevertheless, Calrissian agreed to take Jiany under his guidance. Calrissian accompanied Jiandy to meet Askroh, but they were apprehended by his men.

The pair managed to escape on a speeder. When their speeder malfunctioned, Calrissian engaged in a conversation with Askroh regarding the return of his brooch. Askroh decided to betray them, realizing that Jiandy possessed a secret compartment on his belt. He sold Jiandy out, but Calrissian successfully persuaded Askroh not to harm Jiandy. As Jiandy fled, he declared that he never wanted to see Calrissian again. Calrissian returned to the bar, where Clariah expressed her gratitude for setting her son on a better path.

Deal with the Dark Lord

Calrissian held the position of Baron Administrator over Cloud City.

In 3 ABY, Darth Vader and the Imperial Navy tracked Solo and the Millennium Falcon after their escape from the Battle of Hoth. Vader intended to use Solo—along with fellow Rebel Alliance members Princess Leia Organa and Chewbacca, who were also aboard the Millennium Falcon—as bait to lure his son, Luke Skywalker, into a trap. Vader knew that Skywalker would attempt to rescue his friends if he believed they were in danger, thus falling into Vader's trap. To evade the Empire, Solo suggested heading to Cloud City and seeking assistance from Calrissian. En route to Bespin, the Falcon was tracked by bounty hunter Boba Fett, who had been hired by Vader to locate the Falcon. Vader and Fett arrived on Cloud City before the Falcon, and the Dark Lord of the Sith instructed Calrissian to aid in trapping the Rebels, or Cloud City would face the Empire's wrath. Knowing that Lord Vader would undoubtedly carry out this threat if he refused, Calrissian agreed to Vader's demands, while negotiating for the most lenient treatment possible for Solo and his companions, and awaited the Rebels' arrival.

Calrissian then summoned Torro Sbazzle, Cloud City's Executive Chef, to her kitchen. Despite it being midday and outside of her scheduled work hours, he implored Sbazzle to cook for his new guests. Sbazzle, irritated, was prepared to refuse until Calrissian and Gersolik, Sbazzle's sous-chef, explained that their "guests" were none other than the Empire and Lord Vader, and Calrissian elaborated that the meal was merely for appearances. When Sbazzle inquired about the time she had to prepare the meal, Calrissian informed her that she had only an hour, prompting her to eject the Baron Administrator from the kitchen before commencing her work.

Calrissian arrives to extend greetings to Solo.

The Millennium Falcon arrived at Cloud City and received permission from the city authorities to land. Upon landing, Calrissian personally greeted Solo and the others on the landing platform, accompanied by Lobot and a full contingent of the Bespin Wing Guard. Upon his initial approach, Calrissian feigned anger for Solo's actions in their previous encounters. However, he quickly abandoned the facade and greeted his old friend with affection, expressing his pleasure at seeing him again. Calrissian inquired about the reason for Solo's visit to Cloud City, and the smuggler explained that they needed to repair the Falcon. Calrissian briefly referred to it as his own ship, questioning what Solo had done to damage it, but Solo reminded him that he had won it from Calrissian fairly. Calrissian then noticed Organa and introduced himself, employing his charm to personally welcome her to Cloud City.

While the Rebels settled into an apartment on Cloud City, Calrissian instructed his workers to begin repairing the hyperdrive on the Millennium Falcon. He accompanied the workers and inspected the Falcon, making his way to the cockpit. Calrissian, missing L3-37, his former droid companion, saluted the copilot seat she once occupied. Now a part of the Millennium Collective, L3-37 projected a holographic image of the planet Kessel, the site of her death, to make Lando realize she was still a part of the ship. Calrissian was then summoned by Vader. At some point, the work was completed, and Calrissian was informed that the vessel was repaired, but the Empire secretly disabled the vessel's hyperdrive without Calrissian's knowledge.

Calrissian betrays the trust of his guests to the Empire.

Calrissian had a meeting with the Troglof Corovene Manakor, which was interrupted by the Lepi smuggler Jaxxon, whose appointment had been mistakenly scheduled an hour early by his droid, ML-08. Jaxxon, seeking to become legitimate like Calrissian, requested an investment from the latter. Calrissian angrily refused before departing to gather Princess Leia's apartment, to gather her and her companions for a meeting with Darth Vader.

Once the Empire was prepared to capture Solo, Organa, and Chewbacca, Calrissian greeted them in the apartment, where he admired Organa's beauty. He also noticed that their protocol droid, C-3PO, had been mysteriously damaged and shattered into several pieces, which aroused the Rebels' suspicions. Nonetheless, after inviting them to join him for refreshments, they followed Calrissian throughout the facility, where he informed them about the mining operations and the absence of the Empire and the Mining Guild on Cloud City. Upon arriving at the Rinetta dining room, Calrissian revealed that he had made a deal to keep the Empire off of Cloud City, and he opened the door to reveal Vader and Fett; Fett intended to deliver Solo to Jabba to claim a bounty on the smuggler's head. Vader swiftly subdued Solo, who attempted to shoot him, as a squad of stormtroopers appeared behind the Rebels to prevent their escape. Consequently, the Rebels were successfully captured by the Empire.

Calrissian becomes increasingly worried about the arrangement he made with the Dark Lord.

The Rebels were taken into custody, and Solo was subjected to torture by the Empire; as Vader intended, Skywalker witnessed the torture in a vision, prompting him to rush to Cloud City to rescue his friends. Calrissian waited outside the torture chamber, hearing Solo's screams, disgusted by the evil he had been forced to collaborate with, and spoke with the Dark Lord once Vader emerged from the chamber. Vader informed him that Organa and Chewbacca could never leave Cloud City, to which Calrissian protested, as neither that nor assisting Fett were part of their agreement. Vader threatened to leave an Imperial garrison on Cloud City if Calrissian did not cooperate, making Calrissian realize that the deal was worsening and that Vader would not honor his promises. After Solo's torture concluded, Calrissian spoke to his old friend, Organa, and Chewbacca, informing them that the princess and Chewbacca would have to remain on Cloud City. He also told them that Vader was not interested in them, but rather using them to bait someone named Skywalker to Cloud City, for which he received a punch to the face from an enraged Solo.

Later, Vader determined that he would utilize the Cloud City carbon-freezing chamber to freeze Skywalker in carbonite for delivery to the Emperor. To ensure that Skywalker would not be damaged, Vader decided to test the carbon-freezing on Solo. Calrissian protested, believing that the carbon-freezing would kill Solo. Nonetheless, Vader proceeded with the test. When Solo and the other Rebels arrived, Calrissian informed Solo of his impending fate. Calrissian monitored the freezing and, upon its completion, checked Solo's lifesigns, discovering that Solo was alive and in perfect carbonite hibernation. Vader then ordered Calrissian to bring Organa and Chewbacca to the Dark Lord's vessel, once again altering the deal he had made with the Baron Administrator. Realizing that the Sith Lord had no intention of honoring his bargain, Calrissian secretly signaled Lobot to initiate his contingency plan.

Calrissian subtly signals Lobot to launch an ambush on the Imperials.

Imperial forces escorted Calrissian and the Rebels towards the Dark Lord's ship. En route, they encountered Skywalker, who exchanged fire with the Imperials before the stormtroopers led Calrissian and the Rebels away. The Imperials were soon surrounded by Cloud City security forces, led by Lobot, and disarmed. Calrissian freed the Rebels from their restraints, attempting to explain that he intended to leave the city while assisting the Rebels in their escape, at which point Chewbacca attacked him, grabbing his neck and choking him for his betrayal. Struggling to prevent the enraged Wookiee from crushing his windpipe, Calrissian gasped out that there was still time to save Solo from the bounty hunter, who was taking him to the East Platform. The Rebels released Calrissian, and he followed them towards the platform, arriving in time to witness Fett's ship, Slave I, take off. Despite their attempts to fire at it with blasters, it had no effect, and the bounty hunter escaped with Solo.

Calrissian provides suppressive fire to aid the Rebels' escape.

Stormtroopers soon arrived on the platform, forcing Calrissian and the Rebels to fight their way through them and escape. They proceeded to the Millennium Falcon and arrived at its landing platform, only to find a locked door. R2-D2—Skywalker's astromech droid, who had rendezvoused with the Rebels—attempted and failed to open the door. While the droid was working, Calrissian issued a city-wide broadcast, warning his citizens of the Imperial presence and impending occupation of Cloud City, advising everyone to evacuate before more Imperial forces arrived. Calrissian's announcement triggered a frenzy of activity, as numerous people fled throughout the city. Calrissian led the Rebels through the commotion towards another doorway, which R2-D2 was able to open while Calrissian and the Rebels fought off more stormtroopers. The group ran towards the Falcon, where Calrissian provided cover fire as the others boarded the ship. Once aboard, the Falcon lifted off from the platform, pursued by TIE fighters.

As the Falcon was escaping, Skywalker—who had been injured in and escaped from a lightsaber duel with Vader—communicated to Organa through the Force, calling to her for help as he struggled to hang onto an antenna at the base of Cloud City. Organa asked Chewbacca, who piloted the Falcon, to turn the ship around so they could save their friend. Calrissian protested due to the TIE fighters, but the Rebels returned anyway to rescue their friend. They located Skywalker hanging from the city and positioned the ship underneath him. Once in position, Calrissian opened a hatch and took a lift to the top of the ship, where Skywalker fell into and Calrissian caught him. With Skywalker safely on board, the Falcon took off again from Cloud City, and Calrissian left Skywalker in Organa's care.

Calrissian took the pilot's seat in the Falcon and prepared the ship for a jump into hyperspace. However, when he attempted to make the jump, the hyperdrive failed, much to Calrissian's frustration, as he was unaware that the Empire had sabotaged the ship. The Executor, Vader's Super Star Destroyer, approached the vessel, where Vader would once again attempt to capture Skywalker. R2-D2, having learned of the sabotage while communicating with Cloud City's computer, made the necessary repairs to the hyperdrive, enabling the ship to jump into hyperspace and successfully escape from the Empire.

Calrissian pilots the Falcon in an effort to locate Solo.

At Rendezvous Point Delta-Three, the Millennium Falcon joined up with the Fourth Division of the Alliance Fleet. However, Imperial Commander Ellian Zahra launched an attack on the rebel ships. After the Falcon and other rebel vessels made their escape to Backup Rendezvous Point Gamma-Nine, Calrissian's stay was brief. He and Chewbacca were determined to embark on a mission aboard the Millennium Falcon to locate Solo. Before departing from the fleet, he reached out to Organa and Skywalker, assuring the princess of his and Chewbacca's commitment to finding Solo. The group made arrangements to convene at a designated rendezvous point on Tatooine, specifically at Jabba's Palace. Following their farewells, the Falcon set course away from the fleet.

Meeting an outlaw

Following the escape from Cloud City, Calrissian became an active and prominent member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. During this period, he crossed paths with the emerging scoundrel Kay Vess.

A promise to Han

In the aftermath of the War of the Bounty Hunters, Calrissian, accompanied by Lobot, journeyed to Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine. While there, they encountered and successfully evaded a rancor. Eventually, Calrissian stood before the carbon-frozen Solo and expressed his thoughts. He apologized to Solo for his betrayal on Cloud City, emphasizing that Solo deserved better, regardless of their differences. Lobot suggested seizing the opportunity to take Solo with them, but Lando argued that it would expose Solo to unnecessary danger and pose too great a risk. Before leaving, Calrissian pledged to Han that he would return to rescue his old friend at the first available opportunity.

Rescued by Leia

Calrissian found himself on the planet Arkanis. While he was there, bounty hunters were attempting to capture him, prompting Leia Organa to disguise herself as Boushh to facilitate his rescue. As Calrissian evaded the bounty hunters, he stumbled down a hill and collided with Leia. Eventually, Leia revealed her true identity to Calrissian, and together they escaped to Leia's designated extraction point. Subsequently, bounty hunters captured Chewbacca and delivered him to Bossk. However, Chewbacca was eventually freed from captivity.

Rescuing Han Solo

At a later time, Calrissian and Chewbacca discovered Solo's still-frozen form within Jabba's palace on Tatooine. Skywalker devised a strategy involving Calrissian, Organa, Chewbacca, the droids, and himself to rescue their comrade and, if necessary, eliminate Jabba the Hutt. Calrissian infiltrated the palace, adopting the guise of a new Skiff Guard. To maintain his anonymity, he kept his helmet on with the grill raised. Shortly after his arrival, he caught the attention of Valnir Nai, a serving girl forced into Jabba's service who, as often happened to her, developed a fondness for him. On one occasion, they discussed Jabba's guests for the day, with Calrissian mentioning that the main guest was an off-world landowner with Imperial permits interested in the spice trade. Nai later shared this information with her friend Laizhu Bedenn, a chef also forced into Jabba's employ who was unaware of the new skiff guard.

Calrissian disguised himself as one of Jabba's guards.

Later on, Calrissian found himself in the throne room, maintaining a low profile in one of the darker corners. Nai noticed him and offered him a Dune Sea Delicacy, which he enjoyed. After a brief flirtation with Nai, he had to shift his focus to the partygoers, which hurt the girl who assumed he was a simple scoundrel. While Calrissian was not focused on her, she departed by giving him a halfhearted bow. As Jabba and most palace occupants boarded the sail barge, Calrissian remained in the palace despite his cover as a skiff guard to attend to other business. As he hurried down a corridor, however, he bumped into Nai, who had discovered a set of valuable gems gifted to Jabba and stolen several, keeping them hidden in a covered dish. Wanting the girl to make it out of the palace with the riches, Calrissian helped her pick up the gems but did not answer when she asked for his name, instead getting lost in thought when asked.

Before Calrissian could provide a complete response, they were interrupted by a Rodian enforcer named Raymo, but Calrissian covered for the young girl by claiming she was delivering Jabba a load of fresh Klatooine paddy frogs. Pretending to scold Nai by threatening to feed her to the rancor should she take any longer, Calrissian ensured she escaped the room with the covered gems. While she pretended to cry, Nai had fully fallen in love with the mysterious skiff guard and reunited with Bedenn. While both women lost the gems in a second encounter with Raymo, they escaped the palace aboard one of the landowner's expensive speeders and left to make a new life for themselves.

Still undercover, Calrissian observed the arrival of each member of the Rebel team; the droids arrived first, presented as gifts from Skywalker to Jabba, followed by Organa, who posed as a bounty hunter collecting the reward for Chewbacca, whom she brought as her prisoner. Organa later freed Solo from his carbonite encasement, but their actions were discovered by Jabba and his entourage. Solo was subsequently imprisoned in a prison cell alongside Chewbacca, while Organa was forced into slavery by the Hutt. Throughout these events, Calrissian maintained his disguise.

Skywalker arrived last, declaring himself a Jedi Knight and demanding the release of Solo and the others. Jabba refused, leading Skywalker to engage in combat and slay Jabba's rancor beast. In response to the rancor's failure to defeat Skywalker, Jabba sentenced Skywalker, Solo, and Chewbacca to death by being fed to the sarlacc creature in the Great Pit of Carkoon, where they would be slowly digested over a millennium. Calrissian, still disguised as a guard, accompanied Jabba and his retinue to the Great Pit of Carkoon and was stationed on the skiff holding the prisoners.

Before the rebels could be executed, R2-D2 revealed that he had been concealing Skywalker's lightsaber. The Jedi Knight then launched an assault on Jabba's guards, and Calrissian revealed his true identity, aiding in the liberation of the prisoners and combating the remaining guards. During the chaos, he was knocked off the skiff and plummeted towards the sarlacc pit, managing to grasp the edge. Solo, partially and temporarily blinded due to the carbon freezing, was lowered by Chewbacca towards Calrissian. Solo offered him a staff, and Calrissian reached for it, but one of the sarlacc's tentacles ensnared his leg. Solo aimed his blaster at the tentacle and, despite Calrissian's concerns about Solo's impaired vision, fired at the creature. His shot struck the tentacle, causing the sarlacc to release Calrissian, allowing Solo to pull him to safety.

Once they were safely aboard, Skywalker and Organa—who had eliminated Jabba aboard the Hutt's vessel—leapt from Jabba's ship to the skiff. Calrissian piloted the skiff away from Jabba's exploding vessel, and the group rescued the droids, who had fallen overboard earlier. With the rescue successfully executed, the group returned to the Millennium Falcon and departed from Tatooine.

Battle of Endor

Newly appointed general, Landonis Calrissian jokes with Han Solo before a rebel briefing aboard Home One.

Calrissian was a participant in the Battle of Taanab, where he played a role in defeating a pirate fleet. Subsequently, he joined up with the fleet, only to discover that preparations were underway for a decisive strike against the Empire. The Empire was in the process of constructing a second Death Star, which was in orbit around the forest moon of Endor, and the Emperor himself had arrived on the station to oversee the final stages of its construction. Unbeknownst to the Rebels, the Emperor had deliberately allowed them to gain this intelligence as part of a trap intended to annihilate them. They operated under the assumption that the station, while fully operational, had not yet activated its primary, planet-destroying weapon. Consequently, they formulated a plan to destroy the Death Star and eliminate the Emperor. The plan hinged on a ground assault to disable the generator powering the Death Star's shield, as well as a naval assault against the station itself. Calrissian volunteered to lead the starfighter attack and was promoted to the rank of general within the Rebel Alliance. He attended a Rebel briefing where the strategy for the Battle of Endor was reviewed, and he learned that Solo would command the ground assault, leading a team that included Organa, Chewbacca, and Skywalker. Solo congratulated Calrissian on his promotion, to which Calrissian attributed it to a maneuver he had executed at Taanab. Solo then offered Calrissian the opportunity to pilot the Millennium Falcon during the battle. Aware of the ship's significance to his friend, Calrissian vowed to return it without a single scratch.

Calrissian and his co-pilot, Nien Nunb, during the Battle of Endor.

Solo and his team departed ahead of the fleet to allow themselves sufficient time to disable the shield. Meanwhile, the Rebel fleet prepared for departure. Once ready, Calrissian and his co-pilot, a Sullustan named Nien Nunb, piloted the Falcon to the forefront of the fleet, where all fighter squadrons were accounted for. Admiral Gial Ackbar, the commander of the Alliance fleet, instructed Calrissian to proceed to Endor. Upon their arrival at Endor, Nunb informed Calrissian that the Falcon's scanners were being jammed, leading Calrissian to deduce that the Empire was aware of their approach and that the attack was a trap. As the squadrons neared the Death Star, Calrissian ordered his forces to abort the attack, as he knew that the shield was still active.

A concealed Imperial fleet then revealed itself, forcing Calrissian and his fighter squadrons to engage with the incoming TIE fighters. He directed his fighters towards the Imperial fleet to divert enemy fire away from the Rebel cruisers, and the Falcon successfully shot down several TIE fighters. He soon noticed Imperial Star Destroyers positioned away from the main conflict and questioned their reluctance to engage. Calrissian's question was answered when the Death Star, now revealed to be operational, fired its primary weapon and obliterated a Rebel cruiser with a single shot. Ackbar ordered a retreat, but Calrissian persuaded him to maintain the fleet's position, expressing his confidence in Solo's success on the surface. When another Star Cruiser was destroyed by the superweapon, Calrissian urged Ackbar to reposition the remaining cruisers and engage the Star Destroyers at close range, arguing that they had a better chance against the destroyers than against the Death Star and that the destroyers would be caught in the blast if the superlaser dared to fire again.

On the surface, Solo and his team successfully completed their mission and destroyed the shield generator. With the Death Star now vulnerable, Ackbar ordered Calrissian and his forces to commence their assault on the battle station. The Falcon and the fighter squadrons entered an opening on the space station and made their way towards the reactor core, all while being pursued by TIE fighters. During their approach to the target, the Falcon collided with a bulkhead inside the Death Star, dislodging its sensor [dish](/article/rectenna]; as a result, Calrissian had failed to keep his promise to return the Falcon to Solo "without a scratch." The Rebels reached the main reactor, where the Falcon fired the shot that initiated a chain reaction to destroy the station. Calrissian piloted the ship back along the same path they had entered, with a ball of fire closely following behind. Despite the minor damage, the Falcon managed to escape the Death Star just in time and returned to the Rebel fleet as the Death Star exploded behind it.

Calrissian and his friends celebrate their victory on Endor.

Calrissian and his fellow Rebels made their way to the surface of Endor and regrouped in Bright Tree Village, the home of the Ewoks who had assisted Solo and his team in destroying the shield generator. There, they celebrated the destruction of the Death Star and the demise of the Emperor; during the battle, Skywalker had redeemed Vader, who in turn had killed the Emperor before succumbing to his own injuries. Calrissian reunited with Solo, Chewbacca, and the rest of his friends for the festivities.

Operation: Cinder

Landonis discusses matters with Iden Versio.

Despite their victory at the Battle of Endor, the Rebels continued to face numerous challenges as they worked towards restoring the Galactic Republic. Shortly after Inferno Squad's surrender, Calrissian engaged in discussions with the squad's leader, Iden Versio. He offered them the option to leave freely aboard two X-Wing fighters, as well as the opportunity to assist in preventing the Empire from implementing Operation: Cinder. Iden and Del Meeko chose the latter, leading Lando to assign them to join his friend Shriv Suurgav in Danger Squadron.

Calrissian commanded an Alliance Fleet that included the cruiser Restoration, the Mellcrawler II, and a small fleet of starfighters, including Danger Squadron and defected members of Inferno Squad during the Battle of Theed. They supported Queen Sosha Soruna, Organa, and Lieutenant Shara Bey in disrupting the Imperial operation aimed at rendering Naboo uninhabitable.

The rebels then reengaged the Imperial forces, destroying the last satellites and engaging the Torment. However, before being destroyed, the ship deployed its ground invasion force in an attempt to capture Theed and salvage the battle. After the ground battle concluded, the New Republic began to take shape. Calrissian later accompanied Suurgav on a mission to Sullust.

Liberation of Cloud City

Following the events at Endor, Governor Ubrik Adelhard imposed the Iron Blockade on the Anoat sector. Adelhard also asserted that the Empire had emerged victorious from the Battle of Endor and dismissed reports of the Emperor's death as rebel propaganda. In response, a resistance movement known as the Uprising arose within the sector. Calrissian maintained contact with his longtime friend Lobot, who relayed messages through the blockade and acted as a liaison between Calrissian and members of the Uprising. Unable to directly intervene in the uprising on Cloud City, Calrissian instead channeled credits to the rebels through Lobot's assistance. He was aware of a joint operation involving Lobot and the pirate Kars Tal-Korla to infiltrate Adelhard's personal quarters and apprehend him. Although Adelhard evaded capture, the Uprising succeeded in liberating Bespin as the Galactic Civil War neared its end.

Calrissian effectively starved Adelhard's Imperial remnant into submission. Around the time of the Battle of Jakku, he returned to Cloud City leading a diverse force of Wing Guards and New Republic soldiers. With Lobot by his side, Calrissian led a cleanup operation against an Imperial holdout in the Casino Level's Bolo Tanga room. As they proceeded, Lobot reminded Calrissian to procure a wedding gift for Organa and Solo in anticipation of their expectant child. Calrissian jokingly suggested gifting the boy a miniature cape and mustache to resemble Uncle Lando.

Upon reaching the Bolo Tanga room, Calrissian met with Wing Guard Captain Gladstone, who informed him that the Imperials were entrenched inside. While they had breached the beam outtake shaft, they were trapped by poisonous fumes. Calrissian then addressed the Imperials, offering to spare their lives if they surrendered. As an added incentive, he promised them a hot meal, a warm bed, and safe passage without fear of New Republic persecution. After concluding his address, Calrissian instructed his engineers to unseal the door.

A dozen Imperials accepted Calrissian's offer and were taken into custody by the Wing Guard. However, Gladstone then informed the Baron Administrator that an Imperial sergeant refused to surrender. Calrissian attempted to reason with the sergeant, but the man attempted to shoot him. Calrissian was compelled to kill the sergeant using his Rossmoyne Vitiator pistol. After subduing the Imperials, Calrissian engaged in a conversation with Lobot regarding the matter of purchasing a wedding gift. When Calrissian suggested a lamp and a blaster, Lobot rejected the ideas. Calrissian then proposed leaving his Vitiator in a safe lock until Organa's son reached adulthood. When Lobot vetoed that idea, Calrissian then suggested gifting the family a Vantillian catamaran. Lobot approved of that idea. When Calrissian toyed with the idea of starting his own family, Lobot vetoed that as well. Calrissian then invited Lobot out for a drink, but Lobot declined, stating that he did not drink. Calrissian then promised to find a win-win situation for both of them.

New Republic Era

Encountering Embo

Landonis encounters Embo.

Calrissian and Nunb made a stop at a certain space station to resupply the Falcon with fuel, but they were unable to leave afterwards. Aboard the ship came the bounty hunter Embo, who was trying to collect a reward for Calrissian related to the destruction of the second Death Star. Calrissian disabled Embo, and he and Nunb abandoned him on the station before their departure.

The Search for the Phylanx Redux Transmitter

By 7 ABY, Calrissian had gained control of Calrissian Enterprises, previously known as VylarTech, which produced droids for use on Cloud City. Impresario Calrissian played host to a diplomatic group of Twi'leks, including an old friend named Kaasha Bateen. That evening, he was attacked by his own protocol droid, DRX-7, and another droid who had altered DRX-7's programming. Lobot, Bateen, and others defended Calrissian, but he still sustained a shoulder wound. DRX-7 demanded that Calrissian give back the Phylanx Redux Transmitter to his master, Fyzen Gor. Upon Calrissian's confession that he knew nothing of the Phylanx, the droid revealed that the Millennium Falcon's previous owner had stolen it about a decade prior. DRX-7 was eventually restrained, but the other droid escaped, warning Calrissian that Gor would inflict a massacre on Cloud City if the Phylanx wasn't returned within 72 hours.

Calrissian then journeyed to Chandrila aboard the Lady Luck to confer with Han, assuming the issue stemmed from something that happened during his time owning the Millennium Falcon. He arrived at Han and Leia's apartment to discuss it, beginning the conversation by punching Solo in the face as he opened the door. After calming down with some Corellian whiskey, Han admitted to knowing about the Phylanx from a mission he undertook with Sana Starros long ago. Calrissian persuaded Han to assist in finding the Phylanx to save Cloud City, emphasizing that it was primarily his fault and that the city was in serious danger. That night, Calrissian dined at their apartment and afterwards shared a Chandrilan monjav with Solo. Later, Calrissian and Bateen strolled along the Grand Promenade of the Rebellion in Hanna City, where Calrissian donated credits to a rebel veteran who had lost a leg at the Battle of Hoth.

The following day, Calrissian and the group traveled to the New Republic Defense Fleet headquarters to meet with Conder Kyl, the chief of cyberware. Calrissian requested that Kyl recommend a slicer to join their team, and Kyl suggested the Ewok Peekpa. To convince Peekpa to join, they had to promise that Chewbacca would be part of their crew. Solo contacted Chewbacca, who agreed to join them, and they arranged to pick him up from his home planet of Kashyyyk.

The Search for Kadara

After retiring from service to the New Republic, Calrissian settled down and began a family, but his daughter Kadara Calrissian disappeared in a tragic turn of events. Unbeknownst to him, the emerging First Order had abducted her as part of Project Resurrection, ostensibly to bolster their army but also targeting key figures from the former Rebel Alliance. After receiving assistance from his friends during the initial phase of his search, Calrissian eventually embarked on a solitary journey across the galaxy, seeking any trace of his daughter. In 21 ABY, years into his quest, Calrissian found himself in the Sennifer's Beam and Balance cantina, uncertain whether he was there to find clues about his missing daughter or to gamble. However, he overheard a former Jedi hunter named Ochi drunkenly boasting about being hired by the Sith Eternal. Alarmed by the potential return of the Sith but realizing it could be a lead on Kadara, after hearing Ochi mention kidnapping a young girl, Calrissian contacted Shriv Suurgav to inquire about the girl's family before deciding to meet with his old friend Skywalker.

Skywalker, having sensed a growing darkness in the Force, teamed up with Calrissian to search for the Sith world of Exegol by locating Ochi and stopping the re-emerging Sith viceroy Exim Panshard, who had clung to life within his mask. While Panshard was defeated, Ochi managed to evade them, ultimately dying in the Forbidden Valley of the planet Pasaana due to a false lead left by the girl's parents. The child, Rey, was left on the planet Jakku to avoid detection by the Sith, while Calrissian, Skywalker, and Skywalker's old contact Komat buried her parents, Dathan and Miramir, on the desolate world of Neftali. After taking time to recover on Komat's planet Polaar, Calrissian and Skywalker traveled to Pasaana but found no sign of Ochi. They discovered his ship, the Bestoon Legacy, and Calrissian was drawn to the humble nature of the native Aki-Aki people. Transformed by his time on Polaar and realizing Pasaana would be a suitable base for searching the nearby quadrant for Kadara, Calrissian decided to remain behind and live as a hermit in the Forbidden Valley.

He also pledged to Skywalker that he would watch over the Bestoon Legacy. As Skywalker took one last look at the starship's computer logs, Calrissian began to record a new entry in the Calrissian Chronicles series he had created in his youth. While still residing on Pasaana in 28 ABY, he sent a message of support to his old friend Senator Organa following a political scandal that arose from the revelation that Darth Vader was her true father. That same year, tragedy struck when Solo and Organa's son, Ben Solo, turned to the dark side, leading to the downfall of the New Jedi Order and prompting Skywalker to exile himself from the rest of the galaxy.

The First Order-Resistance War

The Search Continues

Resistance Heroes made their way to Pasaana

In 34 ABY, the First Order initiated the First Order-Resistance War by unleashing their new super weapon, Starkiller Base, against the New Republic, destroying Hosnian Prime and several other planets. During the early stages of the war, many of Calrissian's closest friends lost their lives, including Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, or died in combat, as was the case with Admiral Gial Ackbar. During this period, Rey, the very girl Calrissian had once hoped to save, eventually joined the Resistance. A year later, a mysterious message broadcasting the voice of Darth Sidious, the long-deceased Galactic Emperor and Dark Lord of the Sith, shook the galaxy. Determined to stop Sidious, Resistance heroes Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and BB-8 journeyed to Pasaana in search of a wayfinder.

Organa contacted Calrissian to inform him of the mission. Ben Solo, now known as Kylo Ren, alerted local troopers to the crew's presence on the desert planet. Upon seeing the crew being located, Calrissian shot FN-2802 in the eye with his prod pistol before instructing the crew to follow him. Calrissian led them to a DN-25 treadable and asked the driver, Kalo'ne, to take them to the east passage. Calrissian then revealed himself to the crew, embracing his old friend Chewbacca. When Dameron revealed their search for Exegol, Calrissian recounted his and Skywalker's search for Ochi and informed the crew that Ochi's ship, The Bestoon Legacy, remained where he had left it years ago. Rey offered Calrissian the opportunity to join the Resistance, but Calrissian declined, claiming his flying days were over. However, Calrissian asked Rey to convey his love to Leia, to which Rey responded that he should do so himself, before thanking him and departing with the rest of the crew.

Joining the Resistance

Landonis during First Order-Resistance War

Eventually, Calrissian experienced a change of heart and decided to join the Resistance. He boarded his old ship, the Lady Luck, which he had kept hidden under an unmarked tent, and traveled to the Resistance base on Ajan Kloss. Upon arriving, he reunited with many old friends, including Leia Organa and Nien Nunb. Shortly after, however, Organa sacrificed her life by reaching out to her son through the Force, hoping to redeem him for good. With General Organa now one with the Force, Dameron was left to lead the Resistance. Overwhelmed and uncertain about how to handle the responsibility, Dameron sat beside Organa's bed, expressing his doubts and feelings of inadequacy. At that moment, Calrissian approached Dameron and comforted him, reminding him that the Heroes of Yavin never felt ready during their time in galactic affairs. When Dameron questioned how they could defeat the Empire with limited resources and their doubts, Calrissian stated that they had each other and that they won through that very factor.

With his spirits lifted, Dameron moved forward and began devising a plan for their journey to Exegol. Calrissian later attended a briefing held to prepare for the battle, during which he and Chewbacca were tasked with traveling to the Core Worlds to send out a call for help to anyone willing to aid the Resistance in their upcoming battle. They were also accompanied by Wedge Antilles. Calrissian approached the Millennium Falcon and boarded it for the first time in about fourteen years. He wandered around his old ship, exploring it. Calrissian entered Chewbacca's cabin, recalling that it had been his cape closet fifty-five years earlier. Calrissian was about to leave when he noticed a hologram disc. He picked it up and activated it, revealing a recording of Chewbacca holding a baby Ben Solo, as they comforted each other. Calrissian deactivated the hologram, unable to watch any longer, saddened by the First Order's theft of so much from everyone. Understanding that it was time to fight back, Calrissian entered the cockpit, where he was greeted by Chewbacca. Calrissian spent a moment gazing at his old friend. Eventually, he settled into the pilot seat, Chewbacca moaned loudly, and Calrissian agreed, before the two set off on their journey.

Battle of Exegol

As the Resistance suffered significant losses on Exegol, Calrissian assembled the Citizens' Fleet, comprising 14,000 starships. As Dameron heard the distress of his comrades on the comlink, he apologized, believing they had a chance but were outnumbered. Just then, Dameron heard Calrissian's voice on the comlink, reassuring him that they were not alone. Shortly after, Calrissian and Chewbacca arrived in the Millennium Falcon, accompanied by a massive Citizens' Fleet, including Rebellion hero Wedge Antilles, who complimented Calrissian's flying while he fired on the Falcon. The reinforcements revitalized the Resistance forces and turned the tide of the battle. Dameron ordered the combined forces to destroy the Sith Star Destroyers' world-destroying superlaser cannons. The fleet succeeded in taking down several Sith Star Destroyers.

During the battle, Galactic Emperor Darth Sidious unleashed Force lightning at the fleet, temporarily damaging them, before Rey saved them. Meanwhile, on the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Steadfast, former stormtrooper Jannah connected the cables on a hijacked laser cannon, which opened fire on the bridge of the command ship, killing Allegiant General Enric Pryde. The Resistance and allied armada eliminated the remaining Sith forces. Meanwhile, Finn and Jannah clung to the stricken Steadfast as it descended into the atmosphere. Dameron wanted to rescue the two Resistance fighters, but Calrissian and Chewbacca used the Falcon to rescue Finn and Jannah, who jumped to safety before the Steadfast crashed onto the surface and disintegrated.

Following the battle, Finn noticed that Rey was alive, which brought a smile to Calrissian's face. Calrissian's fleet inspired the galaxy to stand up against the First Order's oppression, saving numerous planets, including Bespin. During the subsequent celebration, Calrissian sat alone, reminiscing about his past. At that moment, Jannah asked Calrissian where he was from, and he replied that he was from the Gold system. Calrissian then asked Jannah where she was from, and she said she didn't know, to which Calrissian responded by offering to help her find her family.

Character and Attributes

Calrissian's custom emblem

Lando Calrissian was a male human who possessed black hair, brown eyes, and dark skin in his younger years. Throughout his life, from his youth into his later years, Calrissian enjoyed playing sabacc. He specifically believed that sabacc cards needed to be well-worn to be perfect. Solo characterized him as a former scoundrel. Despite only accepting jobs where he could identify "the angle," Calrissian was willing to take considerable risks. On one occasion, he, Lobot, and some companions stole the Emperor's luxury yacht, Imperialis. Calrissian hoped to profit by selling the ship's treasures. However, the heist took a dangerous turn when the Sith artifacts aboard corrupted his companions Aleksin, Pavol, and Korin Pers. Calrissian held little regard for the Sith and Jedi, viewing them as "con-jobs."

Lando Calrissian, once a galactic gambler who only joined fights if he saw "an angle," took on a respectable and even pro-rebel turn.

He also had a prior acquaintance with the bounty hunter Cha, which resulted in her sparing his life. Calrissian deeply valued his friendship with Lobot and refused to abandon him. The two shared a close bond. Lobot recognized Calrissian's charm and ability to inspire others, advising him to seek a cause greater than himself and to do good for others. After Lobot lost his free will, Calrissian aimed to become a respectable businessman, transforming Cloud City into a largely legitimate enterprise.

Calrissian was fiercely protective of his people, leading him to betray Solo and the Rebels to protect Cloud City from the Empire's wrath, despite Calrissian having no affection for the Empire. However, he turned against the Empire to give his citizens a chance to escape and to save Solo. Although Solo initially felt betrayed by Calrissian's actions, the two reconciled after Solo was rescued from Tatooine, sharing a warm embrace during the victory celebration on Endor. When addressing or referring to Solo by his first name, Calrissian consistently pronounced the name as "Hand," rather than rhyming with "on," which was the common pronunciation.

Calrissian's X-8 Night Sniper, his primary weapon of choice.

Despite initially dismissing the Rebel Alliance as a lost cause, he eventually joined their fight against the Empire. Calrissian was known for his jovial and witty personality. Despite the wartime damage to Cloud City, Calrissian remained optimistic, preferring to hire refugees to staff his facilities. Calrissian was also a skilled negotiator, successfully convincing several Imperial holdouts to surrender in exchange for fair treatment and permission to leave Cloud City. Calrissian was also a man of honor who upheld his promises. The only individual who could exert influence over Calrissian was his friend and employee, Lobot. Calrissian was delighted to learn that his friends Solo and Organa were expecting a child and looked forward to becoming an uncle.

Abilities and Talents

Calrissian was a good shot with his blaster.

Calrissian possessed exceptional piloting skills. During the Battle of Taanab, Calrissian executed a piloting maneuver that even impressed himself. He later attributed that maneuver as a key reason why the Rebel Alliance commissioned him as a general and placed him in command for the Battle of Endor. Calrissian was also proficient with a blaster, favoring a personal X-8 Night Sniper as his weapon of choice, which he used against Azmorigan's thugs with enough skill to earn Wren's compliment, herself an accomplished markswoman. While living as a hermit on the planet Pasaana, Lando Calrissian utilized a custom-crafted prod pistol to fire an arrow at FN-2802.

Calrissian once undertook a dangerous maneuver involving latching onto a Star Destroyer's tractor beam and causing it to collide with another Star Destroyer. Calrissian was also a cunning combatant, once tricking the lightsaber-wielding Aleksin into deactivating his blade so that he could kill him. Calrissian also owned a Rossmoyne Vitiator pistol, which he won in a game of Six-Card Gizka Limit from a spice-intoxicated Aybarian diplomat. Calrissian used this pistol to kill an Imperial sergeant who refused to surrender. Calrissian had decades of experience playing sabacc, making him highly skilled in the game and fully aware of its tricks. Throughout his playing career, he demonstrated a willingness to cheat by concealing cards or counting them. He knew how to engage in banter at the table and was adept at concealing his hand through his expression. While skilled at cards, he was less proficient at the board game saigok.

Gear

Calrissian often wore capes.

Lando Calrissian was known for his extravagant fashion choices. He was often seen in elaborate clothing, frequently including a cape. During an important sabacc game rematch with the smuggler Han Solo, Calrissian sported a vibrant ensemble. This included a red tie, white pants equipped with a beckon call transponder chit, a custom-made white and blue cape crafted by a tailor on a tropical moon within the Oseon Belt, and a bright yellow shirt. Concealed in the sleeve of this shirt was a green sylop card. On a mission to rescue Han Solo, he donned Tantel armor while disguised as a Skiff Guard. This disguise allowed him to infiltrate Jabba the Hutt's Palace, blending in with the crowd while pretending to work for the crime lord. His disguise featured dark attire, including a mask adorned with bones.

Lando Calrissian's collection of capes included a black synthetic nanosilk capelet with blue satyn lining, an Alderaanian azure cotton cape-cloak featuring gold Aeien silk damask lining and leather trim, a blue floor-length Serennian-style tomuon-cloth cloak, a dark-blue shantung-satyn cape with baffleweave liner, a bespoke tailored Pantoran silk caplet in white with turquoise taffeta lining, and a tarelle sel-weave poncho with hidden armorweave liner.

Behind the scenes

Development

The character of Lando Calrissian was brought to life by Billy Dee Williams in both Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. Williams has revisited the role on multiple occasions, such as in "Idiot's Array," which is the eleventh episode of the first season of the animated series Star Wars Rebels. He also made an appearance in "The Siege of Lothal," the opening episode of the second season. Williams also lent his voice to Calrissian in the game Star Wars Battlefront II, LEGO Star Wars content, Robot Chicken parodies, and other projects. Williams has stated that the name "Calrissian" has Armenian roots. The cultural and ethnic aspects he recognized in the name influenced his portrayal of the character, leading Williams to create a larger-than-life persona that transcended any single ethnicity. The cape, which Williams considers both valuable and iconic, further enhanced Calrissian's flamboyant image.

Lawrence Kasdan, a co-writer of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens, revealed to Vanity Fair that Calrissian does not appear in The Force Awakens. However, he expressed his belief that the character has a future and is "not finished in any way, shape, or form." Rian Johnson, the director of The Last Jedi, briefly considered including Lando in the film as the codebreaker that Finn and Rose Tico needed to locate at Canto Bight. Ultimately, Calrissian was removed from the script and replaced by DJ.

Donald Glover played a younger version of Lando Calrissian in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story. Calrissian was an integral part of the script from the very beginning, as he was essential to the storyline. Jon Kasdan, the screenwriter, confirmed that Lando is intended to be pansexual. "There's a fluidity to Donald and Billy Dee's [portrayal of Lando's] sexuality," he explained. "I mean, I would have loved to have gotten a more explicitly LGBT character into this movie. I think it's time, certainly, for that, and I love the fluidity ― sort of the spectrum of sexuality that Donald appeals to and that droids are a part of." Kasdan's father, who co-wrote the film, offered a more ambiguous perspective on the character's sexuality, stating, "Maybe [Lando's allegedly flirty attitude toward Han] means something, maybe it doesn't." Kasdan also shared on Twitter that a line revealing Lando's full name as "Landonis Balthazar Calrissian III" was recorded but did not make the final cut.

Billy Dee Williams returned to the role of Lando Calrissian for 2019's Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the concluding chapter of the Skywalker saga. Reggie Watts provided the voice for his disguised form in the film.

On March 18, 2021, StarWars.com announced that Marvel Comics' Star Wars comic books releasing in June would feature Pride Month variant covers. These covers would showcase gay and transgender artists paired with LGBTQ+ characters. The artwork, revealed on May 7, included Calrissian on the Star Wars (2020) 14 variant cover created by Stephen Byrne.

Continuity

Star Wars Rebels: Visual Guide: Epic Battles indicates that Calrissian was twenty-six during the events of "Idiot's Array," placing his birth around 30 BBY. This contradicts Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, which states that Calrissian was approximately 78 years old during Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, placing his birth around 43 BBY. In the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story, which takes place in 10 BBY, with Han Solo being 22 years old, Calrissian refers to Solo as "this kid" ("I like this kid. You're adorable.") and "the boy" ("What are you doing with hairy and the boy?"), implying that he is considerably older than Han Solo and supporting the information in The Visual Dictionary.

In early drafts, Calrissian's original name was Lando Kadar. Three concepts for the character were considered: a trader, a James Bond-esque individual, or a clone from the Clone Wars. Ultimately, he evolved into the character seen in Empire Strikes Back.
