Backup Rendezvous Point Gamma-Nine, a location in space, served as a crucial assembly area for the dispersed forces of the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. This occurred in 3 ABY following the Galactic Empire's devastating attack on Echo Base, the Rebel's operational hub situated on the planet Hoth.
Following the Millennium Falcon's escape from Cloud City, the starship linked up with the Alliance's Fourth Division. This division had converged at the rendezvous point after narrowly avoiding destruction by an Imperial attack at Rendezvous Point Delta-Three. At that time, Lando Calrissian mused that they might constitute the surviving elements of the Alliance Fleet. Subsequently, at this rendezvous location, Luke Skywalker received a robotic replacement for his severed hand aboard the EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate Redemption.
Present at the rendezvous point were multiple T-65B X-wing starfighters, BTL Y-wing starfighters, and GR-75 medium transports, along with two EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigates, including the Redemption, the Millennium Falcon, and at least three CR90 corvettes. Several other starships were also in attendance.
The rendezvous point initially materialized in the 1980 motion picture Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, the second film in the Star Wars original trilogy. The location's identification in canon remained a mystery until the release of Star Wars (2020) 1 in 2020, which officially named it "Backup Rendezvous Point Gamma-Nine." However, within Star Wars Legends, the rendezvous point had been previously identified and codenamed "Haven" in 1996. In the Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures short titled "Clash on Cloud City," the Rebel ships are shown departing the rendezvous point via hyperspace.
