Esoomians constituted a sentient species that populated the galaxy.
At some point following 229 BBY, one individual from this species became a member of the Nihil. The bruiser Bumblethunk was an Esoomian who was employed by the criminal Razzi Syndicate under the designation "Prowling Thug 36." By 10 BBY, Bumblethunk had physically assaulted the gambler Landonis Calrissian after Calrissian attempted to strike the Esoomian in an effort to impress a Trianii debutante. This incident was later documented by Submister Twirm of the Razzi Syndicate in the book that would eventually be titled Smuggler's Guide.
The Esoomians were initially referenced within the new Star Wars canon in Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, a reference book from 2018 authored by Daniel Wallace. The first visual depiction of this species occurred in the 2024 Star Wars: The High Republic comic, specifically in The High Republic Adventures – Saber for Hire 3, written by Cavan Scott and with illustrations by Rachael Stott. The species have their origins in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were conceived for the 1993 Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game supplement Wanted by Cracken, which was penned by Louis J. Prosperi.
