Clariah was a Nautolan of the female persuasion, and an old friend of Lando Calrissian. Jiandy was her son.
While Lando Calrissian was in charge of Cloud City, Clariah visited him, accompanied by her son Jiandy. She sat down with Lando and told him she was worried about Jiandy's recent behavior: he was cutting class, associating with questionable individuals, and had voiced his ambition to one day lead a criminal organization similar to Jabba the Hutt's. Clariah then revealed she possessed one of Lando's favorite capes, one he believed to be lost, and promised to return it if he could help Jiandy change his ways. Lando initially declined, but after witnessing Jiandy cheat at a card game and then manipulate his opponents into fighting, he reconsidered and agreed to help.
After Lando successfully dissuaded Jiandy from pursuing a life of crime, Clariah returned to speak with him. As she had promised, she gave Lando back his cape, but voiced her concern that children like Jiandy would continue to be drawn to criminal activity.
Clariah's initial appearance was in the short comic story "Tales from Wild Space: Family Affair, Part 1," penned by Elsa Charretier and Pierrick Colinet, with illustrations by Charretier. This story was featured in the tenth issue of the Star Wars Adventures series, which was published on May 9, 2018. Charretier mentioned on Twitter that the design for Clariah was inspired by the actress Anjelica Huston.
