Plot summary

Aboard the Star Herald, which is located in the remote areas of the galaxy referred to as Wild Space, CR-8R, known as "Crater," completed a tale for BB-00, nicknamed "Boo," about a robbery in Canto Bight that involved an outlaw. Emil Graf then informed Crater that the life of an outlaw is more complex than he realizes, questioning if he had previously heard of Lando Calrissian.

Years ago, Lando Calrissian reassured Tonee, a businessman, that his outlaw days were behind him and that he was prepared to finalize an agreement with him, proposing a toast to a life free of trouble. However, Clariah, a Nautolan, beckoned him over, seeking his assistance. After they were seated, Clariah explained her predicament. Her son, Jiandy, was refusing to attend school, associating with undesirable individuals, and aspiring to establish a galactic gang to compete with Jabba the Hutt's criminal empire.

Simultaneously, Clariah's son approached a group of strangers, requesting to gamble with them. Clariah desired Lando to assist in reforming her son, promising to return his cape crafted from Alderaanian Azure cotton and Cantonican golden silk. Lando initially declined her proposition, citing the demands of his business.

Returning to the strangers, Jiandy emerged victorious in the game, provoking the ire of the other two participants, but shifting the blame onto Gork, a Rodian. He then rejoined his mother, who expressed her disappointment in his actions. Lando ultimately consented to aid Clariah.

Lando and Jiandy departed and began to explore the streets of Cloud City. Jiandy inquired about Lando's decision to abandon his career as a smuggler, considering the advantages it offered. However, Lando asserted that no amount of credits could persuade him to return. They arrived at an alleyway and sought cover. In the alley, Askroh, a crime lord, was interrogating Tudd regarding the smuggling of Alderaanian white. Jiandy noticed a valuable pin adorning Askroh's shirt. Lando attempted to intervene, but Jiandy dashed around to a dumpster. He leaped from the dumpster onto a roof above Askroh and pilfered the pin before the crime lord could react. However, before they could escape, Askroh and his gang intercepted them, informing Lando and Jiandy that they had made a grave error.
