IDW Publishing

IDW Publishing, a well-known American comic book company, is most famous for its authorized comic adaptations and associated works related to various films and animated series, including titles like Star Trek, My Little Pony, Ghostbusters, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

History

In 1999, Idea and Design Works was established by a team of entertainment industry professionals and artists, including Ted Adams, Robbie Robbins, Alex Garner, and Kris Oprisko, with the goal of creating products related to video games, movies, television, collectible card games, comic books, and trading cards. The IDW Publishing branch was then created in 2000.

Following the development of numerous other Disney properties, such as Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse, their initial foray into the Star Wars universe occurred in 2015 with the launch of the Star Wars version of the Micro Comic Fun Pack, a collection of blind bags containing comics, stickers, and posters, with similar editions for other series having already been released.

Since then, they have begun reprinting the Los Angeles Times Syndicate comic strips in hardcover collections, starting with Star Wars: The Classic Newspaper Comics Vol. 1 on May 9, 2017.

They formerly held the license for Star Wars comics aimed at younger readers, using it to launch original comic book stories, starting with Star Wars Adventures Ashcan on July 20, 2017, at San Diego Comic-Con, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens Graphic Novel Adaptation on August 29.
