Plot synopsis

On the Imperial colony planet of Castell, situated in the Inner Rim, Lando Calrissian arranges a meeting with Moff Ssaria, the Imperial governor overseeing the region, at her opulent penthouse suite. Calrissian and Ssaria share a romantic entanglement. When Ssaria questions Calrissian's fascination with one of her ornaments, he confesses his intent to pilfer it. Calrissian's motive was to vend the ornament to settle his outstanding debts. As Ssaria menaces him with her blaster, Calrissian proceeds to elaborate on his inability to abscond with it, aware that Ssaria would deploy troopers in pursuit and that tidings of her lover's treachery would disseminate. By appealing to her affections, Calrissian persuades her to permit his departure with the ornament, wagering his life on it.

Calrissian narrates his interaction with Ssaria to a dumbfounded Lobot, who voices apprehension regarding the hazards he embraces. When Lobot proposes outright theft, Calrissian retorts that he sought to evade Ssaria's pursuit. By inducing her to bestow the ornament, he rationalizes that she perceives herself as aiding a close confidant and will recall this whenever she endeavors to feign humanity instead of being a brutal enforcer. Calrissian conveys the ornament to the crime lord Papa Toren, who is attended to by numerous Ximpi. However, Toren merely deducts ten percent from Calrissian's indebtedness. Upon Calrissian's objection, the alien elucidates that the arrangement solely granted him additional respite to discharge his obligations. Ultimately, Calrissian consents to undertake another assignment for Toren to eradicate the residual portion of his debt.

Calrissian divulges the information to Lobot. Following deliberations, the pair resolves to accept Toren's proposition and enlist the aid of Aleksin and Pavol, two enigmatic extraterrestrial warriors who are either siblings or clones. For their undertaking, Calrissian and Lobot secure the services of Korin Pers, a former Ugnaught sava hailing from the University of Bar'leth who has encountered misfortune. Sava expresses reluctance towards Calrissian's proposition, citing the loss of her left eye during a prior mission. Nevertheless, she alters her stance upon Calrissian's disclosure that they intend to commandeer a pleasure yacht belonging to affluent Imperials. Papa Toren had gleaned intelligence regarding the yacht through his connections at Sienar Fleet Systems's Orbital Shipyard CC-24 orbiting Castell. Calrissian and his cohort infiltrate the orbital shipyard and abscond with the vessel after subduing the stormtrooper sentries.

Lando and Lobot pilot the vessel away from the shipyard. Lando assures Lobot that he will activate the hyperdrive once they have evaded the gravitational fields. The shipyard's Commander Pasqual apprises Grand Vizier Mas Amedda of the ship's disappearance. While Lando and Lobot inquire about the yacht's proprietor and deliberate on their subsequent strategy, Grand Vizier Amedda informs Emperor Palpatine of certain unfavorable developments.
