Star Wars 5, a comic book from the Legends continuity, represents the fifth installment in the Star Wars series. This issue, featuring artwork by Howard Chaykin and writing by Roy Thomas, was initially released on August 10, 1977 by Marvel Comics. The story, entitled "Lo, the Moons of Yavin!," presents an adaptation of scenes taken from the movie Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker make their escape from the Death Star and head towards the Rebel Alliance's headquarters situated on the moon known as Yavin 4. Once there, they hand over R2-D2 to the Rebel forces, who then utilize the data contained within him to formulate a strategy aimed at the destruction of the Death Star. Simultaneously, the Death Star has tracked the Millennium Falcon to the location of the Rebel base with the intention of obliterating it. In a state of urgency, the Rebels dispatch their fighter pilots on a mission designed to eliminate the Death Star. Luke, resolving to aid the Rebels, reunites with his longtime companion Biggs Darklighter as they prepare for their launch into the vastness of space.
In contrast to the film, Star Wars 5 erroneously refers to Red Squadron as Blue Squadron. Notably, the designation "Blue Squadron" had been previously employed within the novelization authored by Alan Dean Foster.
