Dave Cockrum


Photo ©1995 Anthony Taylor Dave Cockrum, born on November 11, 1943, and who passed away on November 26, 2006, was a notable comic-book artist. He contributed his talents to both Marvel and DC Comics. Subsequent to his service in the United States Navy, Cockrum's initial foray into the comic book industry was with Warren Publishing. Later, he was recruited by DC Comics to illustrate stories for Legion of Superheroes. In 1975, Cockrum transitioned to Marvel Comics, where he collaborated with writer Len Wein to revitalize the X-Men comic series. Together, they introduced several original characters, including Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler, who was Cockrum's personal favorite.

In 2004, Cockrum's health deteriorated significantly due to complications arising from pneumonia and diabetes. This impacted his ability to produce new comic works. He died on November 26, 2006.

He was the husband of Paty Cockrum, a former employee of Marvel who also occasionally contributed to their publications.
