Howard Chaykin

Howard V. Chaykin, a comic book artist and writer, was born in Newark, New Jersey, on October 7, 1950. He provided the illustrations for the initial ten editions of the Marvel Star Wars comic book series.

During the early part of the 1970s, his initial artistic contributions were in the science fiction and fantasy genres for DC Comics. Despite the considerable success of his work on the Star Wars series, Chaykin is perhaps most recognized for the series he originated in 1983, American Flagg, a comic book that explored more adult themes compared to the majority of mainstream publications of that era.

Furthermore, he created the very first promotional poster for Star Wars.
