Star Wars issue number 7 represents the seventh installment in the Legends comic book series titled Star Wars. This issue was jointly authored by Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin, with Chaykin and Frank Springer providing the artwork. Marvel Comics initially released it on October 11, 1977. The story presented in this issue is called "New Planets, New Perils!," marking the first narrative in the series to take place following the events depicted in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
After saying their goodbyes to their Rebel compatriots, Han Solo and Chewbacca embark on a voyage back to Tatooine with the intention of repaying their obligation to Jabba the Hutt. During their travels, they are ambushed by the space pirate Crimson Jack and his band of ruffians. The pirates relieve Han and Chewbacca of the money awarded to them by the Rebel Alliance for their role in rescuing Princess Leia Organa, but they allow them to live.
Finding themselves in a predicament where they cannot settle their debt to Jabba, the pair are forced to go into hiding and seek shelter on the planet of Aduba-3. There, they are engaged by Pera, a priest belonging to the Sacred Way, with the task of burying a recently deceased borg. Despite encountering opposition from local inhabitants who disapprove of burying a borg in their traditional burial ground, they eventually locate the burial site. Having completed this task, the two smugglers are relaxing inside a local cantina when they are offered a significantly more dangerous assignment.
The issue was initially scheduled for shipping on September 13, 1977, with a release date for sale of October 11, 1977, and a cover date of January 1978.
Star Wars 7 presents the story "New Planets, New Perils!," which served as an early contribution to what would eventually become the Star Wars Expanded Universe. It marks the introduction of Crimson Jack and Jolli, characters who would reappear throughout the series.
In The Rebel Thief, Han states that he has returned the reward money to the Rebels. However, this statement is inconsistent with the events of this comic issue, where Crimson Jack steals the money.
