Wild Space represented an area within the galaxy characterized by unmapped planets and collections of stars known as clusters. Situated beyond the familiar boundaries, it remained largely uncharted throughout much of galactic history. Unlike the Unknown Regions, which were mapped but not fully explored, Wild Space was almost entirely unmapped.
Within the enigmatic Wild Space resided the mysterious realm of Mortis. Furthermore, it encompassed the planets Mulita, Teth, Indoumodo, Kalee, Thune, Pion, Agaris, Lysatra, and Lira San, which served as the original homeworld for the Lasat species.
Wild Space constituted a vast expanse of unmapped star clusters, harboring dangerous worlds. Humans from the Core Worlds frequently exhibited prejudice towards sentient beings originating from Wild Space, including fellow humans. A prime example is Commandant Deenlark of the Royal Imperial Academy on Coruscant, who displayed discrimination against Eli Vanto from Lysatra, derisively labeling him a "backwater yokel" due to his Wild Space origins. The Unknown Regions, on the other hand, had mapping, but were largely unexplored.

The Lasat homeworld of Lira San was known to exist in Wild Space. It was isolated from the rest of the galaxy by a collapsed star cluster. The Lasat people of Lira San established a colony on the planet Lasan at some point before the Imperial Era. Over time, communication between Lira San and Lasan ceased. Consequently, the Lasat residing on Lasan came to regard Lira San as a mythical Lasat sanctuary. Ziro the Hutt arranged for his father to be buried on the jungle planet of Teth. Ziro also concealed the Hutt Council's records there.
With the outbreak of the Clone Wars, a conflict that set the Galactic Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the exploration of Wild Space experienced a significant slowdown. In 22 BBY, Teth was home to a B'omarr Order Monastery, which the Separatist assassin Asajj Ventress utilized as a hiding place for Rotta, the abducted son of Jabba Desilijic Tiure. Several bounty hunters employed by Jabba, along with a pair of ARF troopers, tracked Ventress to the Monastery. The clones relayed this information to Jedi General Mace Windu, but the bounty hunters were beheaded. As a result, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and his newly appointed Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, were dispatched to Teth, accompanied by the clone troopers of the 501st's Torrent Company immediately following their victory on Christophsis with the objective to rescue Rotta. Approximately a year later, Ziro, Jabba's uncle, met his death there at the hands of his estranged former lover Sy Snootles, who recovered Ziro's stolen Hutt Council records before he could sell it to the Republic.
Wild Space was also known as the location of an enigmatic planet known as Mortis, which was inhabited by a family of Force wielders referred to as the Father, the Daughter, and the Son. These three figures embodied the balance in the Force, the light side, and the dark side of the Force respectively. The Force wielders attempted to persuade Skywalker to embrace his prophesied destiny as the Chosen One. However, their plans were disrupted when the Son succumbed to the dark side, initiating a series of events that culminated in the deaths of all three Force wielders. Their realm existed outside the boundaries of conventional time and space.

During the rule of the Galactic Empire, travel through Wild Space resumed. The new government's Survey Corps even expressed interest in the most remote and uncharted regions of space. Consequently, the demand for maps of Wild Space increased, enabling cartographers to earn a reasonable income by creating and selling them. Auric and [Rhyssa Graf](/article/rhyssa_graf], a married couple of interplanetary explorers, dedicated fifteen years to mapping Wild Space until they were captured by Captain Visler Korda of the Imperial Navy.
Despite the growing interest in Wild Space, its inhabitants did not always receive respect during this era. Eli Vanto, along with his mother and father, hailed from Wild Space, and Vanto, in particular, faced a lack of respect for a period, despite his contributions to the Empire.
In 3 BBY, the Lasat rebel Garazeb Orrelios, the Spectres rebel cell, and the Lasat refugees Chava the Wise and Gron participated in a quest to locate the legendary Lasat sanctuary of Lira San. Lira San was situated within Wild Space and could only be reached by navigating through a collapsed star cluster. After being pursued by Imperial forces and enduring a challenging trial, Orrelios successfully utilized his bo-rifle to guide the rebel starship Ghost through the turbulent region. Chava and Gron settled on Lira San, which they discovered to be the original Lasat homeworld.
Subsequently, Orrelios and the Mandalorian rebel Sabine Wren embarked on a mission to Thune City on the Wild Space planet of Thune to retrieve cargo containers and ships for the rebellion. During their mission, the two encountered conflict with the criminal Garbis family.
Following the Battle of Endor, the pirate crew led by Eleodie Maracavanya seized control of the Super Star Destroyer Annihilator. With an Imperial Navy warship under her command, Maracavanya became known as the "pirate ruler of Wild Space." In 5 ABY, Maracavanya devised a plan to exploit the widespread chaos in the galaxy by establishing a criminal empire in Wild Space based on individualism and greed.
While searching for Chewbacca, who had been captured by the Empire, Han Solo came under attack and lost contact with his wife Princess Leia Organa near the edge of Wild Space. Later, New Republic pilots Norra Wexley and Wedge Antilles journeyed to Han Solo's last known coordinates. They were attacked by Commander Valent's Star Destroyer Scythe, but were rescued by New Republic ships led by Commodore Kyrsta Agate, who had received intelligence about Valent from the mysterious Imperial source known as the Operator.
After the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, Garazeb Orrelios transported the former ISB agent turned Rebel spy Alexsandr Kallus aboard an EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate to Lira San, where Kallus was welcomed as one of their own. On Morak, Imperial remnants occupied the planet to rebuild their military forces in a bid to return to their former glory.
During the First Order-Resistance War, General Leia Organa of the Resistance dispatched two of her agents, Finn and Poe Dameron, to the frontier of Wild Space on a supply mission. The two became involved in a daring train heist.
Wild Space has been featured in various Legends books and other media, including Star Wars: The Old Republic, Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison, and The Essential Atlas. The region made its first appearance in Canonical continuity with the planet Teth in the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Pablo Hidalgo clarified in Rebels Recon that Wild Space lies "outside" the known map of the galaxy. In contrast, the Unknown Regions have defined borders on the galactic map, but the region remains unexplored. This differs from Legends, where Wild Space exists at the edge of the known galaxy, while everything beyond that edge falls within the Unknown Regions.
