The bo-rifle served as a unique combination weapon, merging the functionalities of an electrostaff with those of a blaster rifle. It was specifically designed for use by the Honor Guard of Lasan. Its use by anyone else was considered a significant offense, with a notable exception: if an individual triumphed over a guardsman and was gifted the weapon, in accordance with the Boosahn Keeraw, the warrior code of the Lasat species.
This weapon was constructed as a staff that could be shortened to a length comparable to a standard blaster rifle. When extended, the weapon's end(s) became electrified, reaching voltages of up to 11,000 volts, displaying either a purple or yellow hue. These electrified points served as the primary contact points during close-quarters combat. The quantity of tips varied depending on the specific model (the AB-75 and J-19 featured two tips, while the CJ-9 had only one). In melee combat, the weapon was utilized as a quarterstaff. When collapsed or folded, it could be used as a blaster rifle. The tips of the bo-rifle emitted an electromagnetic pulse capable of stunning adversaries and disabling ray shields. The bo-staff configuration is activated by twisting the top handle downward, pressing both handles inward, and then activating both EMP tips.
Following the devastation that befell Lasan, sightings of bo-rifles became scarce throughout the galaxy. However, some eventually found their way into the possession of both the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire.
Agent Kallus, an operative within the Galactic Empire's Imperial Security Bureau, obtained his J-19 bo-rifle through the Boosahn Keeraw after defeating a Honor Guard warrior during the Siege of Lasan.
