The CJ-9 electrified bo-rifle, often shortened to CJ-9 bo-rifle, represented a specific model of bo-rifle. This weapon was a distinctive combination of an electrostaff and a blaster rifle. Beyond its acceptable blaster firing rate, the CJ-9 was also capable of delivering deadly close-quarters attacks when its shaft was extended, transforming it into an electrified staff. As the signature weapon of the Lasan High Honor Guard, the bo-rifle was known as a weapon exclusively owned by those who had defeated its former user in battle.
The CJ-9 electrified bo-rifle, alternatively referred to as the CJ-9 bo-rifle, was a bo-rifle model, an unusual weapon that requires two hands to operate, merging the functionalities of an electrostaff and a blaster rifle. This weapon could fire red-colored blaster projectiles with a consistent rate of fire. However, its most notable characteristic was the staff at its front, which could emit yellow electromagnetic pulses for delivering lethal melee strikes against adversaries.

Sharing similarities with the J-19 bo-rifle, a later and less refined iteration of the bo-rifle, the CJ-9, which was black, featured a long, cylindrical shaft. A smaller rifle barrel was attached beneath, responsible for firing the blaster bolts. The weapon's shaft included cooling vents and could be extended forward to convert into an electrified staff. The rifle also lacked a trigger guard. In contrast to the J-19, the CJ-9 incorporated a scope above the shaft, rather than a bayonet positioned on the upper edge.

The CJ-9 was a specific bo-rifle model, a weapon type produced by the Lasan-Malamut Firearms Corporation and traditionally wielded by the Lasan High Honor Guard. These guards served as the defense forces protecting the Lasat homeworld of Lasan until the planet's subjugation by the Galactic Empire. The bo-rifle gained notoriety as a weapon obtainable only by defeating its current owner, a tradition known as the Boosahn Keeraw in Lasat culture.
Between 19 BBY and 10 BBY, Masse Goskey, who owned Masse Goskey's Arms Emporium and Explosives Mart in the Mos Eisley spaceport on Tatooine, and his associate Ephant Mon, acquired various weapons on the moon of Nar Shaddaa. Among their purchases was a CJ-9 electrified bo-rifle, costing 1,100 credits. A complete record of their acquired goods was kept in a book that would eventually be known as the Smuggler's Guide. According to Goskey's notes in the book, the weapons they obtained on Nar Shaddaa were illegal in sixty-six sectors, which forced them to sell the weapons to criminal organizations such as the Crymorah Syndicate and the Black Sun.
At some stage, an unknown explorer created a journal filled with stories and images, including a sketch depicting a Lasat using a CJ-9 bo-rifle against a hostile creature. This sketch, along with others resembling the style of the Ithorian artist Gammit Chond, was later restored, expanded, and displayed at the Graf Archive on the moon Orchis 2, at some point after 34 ABY.

The CJ-9 bo-rifle made its initial appearance in a 2016 update for the Star Wars Battlefront video game, following previews in trailers for previous expansion packs. Erik Rading, a 3D artist, designed the weapon. The 2018 reference book Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, authored by Daniel Wallace, later identified it as the CJ-9 electrified bo-rifle.
Within Star Wars Battlefront's multiplayer modes, the bo-rifle stands out as a unique weapon, unlockable only by defeating another player who is already using it. Originally introduced into the game by developers who entered multiplayer matches with the CJ-9, the bo-rifle has since become a weapon that spreads virally. Once acquired, the CJ-9 can be used by troopers from all factions, including the Galactic Empire, the Rebel Alliance, and the New Republic.
