At the Resistance base, Temmin Wexley and Karé Kun are joined in matrimony.
A wedding often marked the formal beginning of marriage, which was a recognized partnership between beings in a relationship. Following some form of engagement or betrothal, unions could occur between various genders. While romantic feelings typically drove weddings, some were strategically arranged for political or economic gain.
Traditions and laws surrounding weddings and marriage varied across different planets and cultures. In certain cultures, males were permitted to have multiple spouses. Due to its prohibition on possessive attachments that could lead to the dark side, the Jedi Order forbade Jedi from marrying. Many on Chandrila entered into marriage around the age of fifteen.
The formally recognized union of at least two beings in a partnership is marriage. The marriage ceremony itself, which might be officiated by a member of the clergy, is known as a wedding. Marriage was possible between beings of the same or different genders. Certain cultures permitted males to have numerous spouses, such as the alpha-bulls of the Crolute species, who had concubines, junior spouses, and senior spouses.

An individual who married a reigning monarch or someone of high rank in the government would become their consort. Bail Prestor became her consort and received the titles of First Chairman and Viceroy when he married Breha Organa, the Queen of Alderaan. Couples often wore rings to symbolize their marriage, and some chose to adopt their spouse's last name.
Following the wedding, a party was usually held. Newly married couples also commonly took a brief trip together, known as a honeymoon. The Grand Regent hotel on Lanz Carpo featured the honeymoon suite, a room equipped with pheromone enhancers for newlyweds.
Divorce could end marriages. A widow is a woman whose spouse has passed away by death, while a widower is a man in the same situation.
Engagement, also referred to as betrothal, was a marital custom in some cultures. Prior to officially marrying, two beings would be "engaged" or "betrothed." Some cultures had rules requiring betrothed individuals to abstain from reproductive activities before marriage, although this rule was not always adhered to. Some men had parties the night before their wedding with their male friends, which usually involved alcohol.
On Chandrila, couples traditionally married at the age of fifteen. The Chandrilan aristocracy also practiced child betrothals. Davo Sculdun offered to help Mon Mothma in exchange for introducing his fourteen-year-old son to the senator's thirteen-year-old daughter Leida, as she would soon be of marriageable age under Chandrilan customs, when the senator met with her fellow Chandrilan to arrange alternative financing for her "charity foundation" (which was actually a cover for her Rebel activities).

The Jedi were prohibited from marrying in the Jedi Order because it was thought that emotional attachment and possession could result in jealousy, fear of loss, and, ultimately, the dark side of the Force. Jedi were required to put the Order's needs first, even though romantic feelings were regarded as natural.
On Naboo, clothes for weddings could be fashioned from wedding fabric, pieces of cloth passed down through Naboo families like the Naberries. Sola, the eldest daughter of the Naberries, chose to use her portion of the fabric to create clothing for her daughters because she had no interest in romance and chose not to wed. Padmé, her sister, used her portion to create a veil for her private wedding, along with a dress created for her by Yané, her former handmaiden.
In the Alderaanian monarchy, before meeting their spouse on their wedding day, the royal's parent would strap the Rhindon Sword to their waist. The Rhindon Sword was used during the Day of Demand ceremony for the heir apparent and when they were formally invested as crown prince or princess. Breha Organa informed her daughter, Leia, of this before her Day of Demand, stating that she would one day attach the sword to her waist when she met her husband or wife. This did not occur when Leia wed Han Solo, a Corellian, due to Breha's passing and the Rhindon Sword's destruction, but Leia felt as though her mother was attaching the sword to her waist during the wedding.
As was customary on Chandrila, Senator Mon Mothma wed fellow Chandrilan Perrin Fertha when she was fifteen. About a year later, when Mothma was sixteen, the couple relocated to Coruscant and eventually had a daughter named Leida.
Breha Organa of Alderaan, daughter of the Elder Houses and member of the Alderaanian royal family, married Bail Prestor before 28 BBY. Bail was given the titles of Governor of Alderaan, First Chairman and Viceroy, becoming the queen's husband and consort. Bail gave up his own legacy in favor of hers and abandoned his childhood ambition of surviving Kathou to pursue purrgil in order to follow her, changing his last name to match Breha's.

Following the First Battle of Geonosis and at the start of the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, Padawan Anakin Skywalker married Senator Padmé Amidala in a secret ceremony conducted on Naboo, which was presided over by Maxiron Agolerga. Skywalker was not permitted to marry because he was a member of the Jedi Order, thus their union had to remain a secret. The wedding, however, was arguably the most significant one in galactic history.

Padawan Ahsoka Tano accompanied former Separatist Senator Lux Bonteri as he infiltrated the Death Watch in 20 BBY. Bonteri sought vengeance by joining forces with the Mandalorian terrorist organization after learning that Count Dooku had ordered the assassination of his mother, Mina Bonteri. He claimed Ahsoka was his betrothed because the Death Watch was not expecting her to accompany Bonteri when she boarded his ship surreptitiously. Later, as Bo-Katan Kryze approached, the young man kissed Tano to stop her from criticizing the Death Watch to Bonteri. Eventually, Bonteri truly married an Imperial woman and took on the role of stepfather to her daughter.
Haplif, an Agbui who traveled through the Unknown Regions, discovered that the custom of betrothed individuals abstaining from sex before marriage was frequently disregarded. Therefore, Haplif was taken aback when Yoponek, a Chiss mid-ager, insisted on having a separate sleeping room from his betrothed, Yomie.

Following the Rebel Alliance's victory over the Galactic Empire during the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Han Solo and Leia Organa married on Endor in a modest ceremony officiated by Organa's twin brother, Luke Skywalker. Organa noted that she would have been married at the cathedral in Aldera with a traditional lace dress, an hour dedicated to the bell service, three different traditional meals with guests of rank and more had her homeworld of Alderaan not been destroyed. While the couple did not keep their marriage a secret, they also chose not to make it public. They later had a son, whom they named Ben.
