Crolute

Crolutes hailed from the planet of Crul, and were a massive sentient species that were both humanoid and aquatic. These beings were exclusively male, while their mates, known as Gilliands, were solely female. The bodies of Crolutes, when taken out of their native saltwater environment, exhibited an unsettling droopiness due to their buoyant, gelatinous tissue. Similar to the Mon Calamari, their feet resembled flippers and could be accommodated by standard humanoid boots.

Biology and appearance

These aliens originated from the Mid Rim planet Crul, and their biology was tied to aquatic environments. These creatures were enormous, with buoyant, gelatinous body tissue. Outside of their saltwater habitat, their bodies would sag in a disturbing manner, resembling a melted blobfish. Like the Mon Calamari, they possessed flipper-like feet. They also had the ability to hold their breath for extended periods of hours.

History

The ancestors of the Crolute lineage inhabited the warm, shallow seas of Crul. They initially ventured onto land during the planet's summer seasons, where males would engage in combat to secure mates and protect breeding colonies situated on the beaches. Over millions of years of evolutionary adaptation, the species transitioned to terrestrial life while maintaining a strong affinity for water. Eventually, they evolved into the Crolutes, who maintained a clan-based social structure governed by dominant males and alpha females.

Society and culture

The Crolutes resided in the saltwater oceans of their home planet, demonstrating remarkable grace and agility as swimmers. They adapted to life on land, establishing a clan-based society and forming breeding colonies along the beaches, where males competed for mates. Dominant males maintained harems of junior spouses and concubines, constantly facing challenges from younger males and females. While naturally aggressive and ruthless, physical violence was limited, as disputes were typically resolved through ritualized displays of intimidation and dominance.

Clan compounds were built around lagoons, reflecting the species' enduring love for water. Alpha males and females resided in mansions featuring deep, ornately decorated immersion tanks, which served as preferred locations for diplomatic and trade negotiations. Clan leaders engaged in debates while floating on their backs, indulging in banquets of gastropods and fermented kelp-ichor.

Crolutes in the galaxy

The vast majority of Crolutes remained within the confines of their home planet and its colony moons. However, one notable exception was Unkar Plutt, who held the position of junk boss on Jakku.
