Rhindon Sword

The Rhindon Sword served as an age-old, ornamental sword. During the Day of Demand, the individual believed to be the future heir to Alderaan's throne would bear this sword. Its presence symbolized that, in former times, those princes and princesses vying for the crown had occasionally been compelled to fight to reach the throne room. Furthermore, the sword was also present in the follow-up ceremony that took place after the heir successfully completed their trials, where they would be formally declared the heir apparent. When not in use for ceremonial duties, the sword was displayed on a wall within the royal palace.

Despite previous practice sessions, Princess Leia Organa was taken aback by the unexpected weight of the sword when she lifted it on her own Day of Demand. However, at her crowning ceremony several months later, following extensive pathfinding instruction and weapons training, she perceived the sword as being lighter.

Before her Day of Demand, Queen [Breha Organa](/article/breha_organa], Leia's mother, had placed the sword on Leia's bed and expressed her wish for Leia to wear it upon getting married. By the time Leia wed Corellian Han Solo in 4 ABY, the sword, along with the rest of Alderaan, had met its destroyed. Leia had thought of it and the conversation with her mother shortly after announcing the news of her engagement to Mon Mothma, but Leia felt as though her late mother were attaching the Rhindon Sword to her waist during the ceremony as there was a moment of silence for those who could not be there.

Grand Moff Tarkin was once likened to the sharp, slender form of the Rhindon Sword's blade when announcing the arrests on Christophsis to the Imperial Senate.

Behind the scenes

The Rhindon Sword made its debut in Leia, Princess of Alderaan, a young-adult novel from 2017 penned by Claudia Gray. This weapon is an allusion to Rhindon, the sword wielded by Peter Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia series of fantasy books by C. S. Lewis.
