The ceremonial seat belonging to Darth Sidious, who was both the Dark Lord of the Sith and the Emperor ruling the galaxy, was known as the Throne of the Sith.
A throne was a special seat or chair used in ceremonies by powerful figures, such as the monarch ruling Naboo, the Duchess governing Mandalore, the members of the Bardottan Bahk-tov Council, and the Galactic Emperor. The term can also represent the authority, obligations, and status connected to a royal person. The Emperor Darth Sidious's throne aboard the second Death Star was a large chair that could swivel and had control panels built into its arms. Inside the Imperial Palace, his throne was a large, unadorned, and solid black structure. Supreme Leader Snoke of the First Order possessed a seat on his flagship, the Supremacy, that resembled a throne, though it wasn't a real throne for a royal.
The Throne of the Sith was situated within the throne room found in the Sith Citadel on Exegol, an ancient Sith planet in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. Kylo Ren and Rey were both offered the Sith throne by Darth Sidious, the resurrected Dark Lord of the Sith. However, during the Battle of Exegol, Sidious declared his return as the "one true Emperor" and took the throne for himself.
Certain thrones included functional features. For instance, the throne located in the Theed Royal Palace had a hidden compartment in its armrest that contained several ELG-3A blasters with shortened barrels, which served as a final defense for the monarch. Queen Padmé Amidala made effective use of this during a battle to reclaim Theed from the Trade Federation, enabling her and Captain Panaka to defeat the droids within the throne room and capture Viceroy Nute Gunray.
