Leia's bedroom

The childhood chamber of Princess Leia Organa of [Alderaan](/article/alderaan], situated within a lofty tower of the royal palace on Alderaan, was Leia's bedroom. By royal measures, it was surprisingly unpretentious.

A window seat provided a vista of Appenza Peak, an Alderaanian mountain, and a balcony bore a fragment of chipped stone – a souvenir from Organa's youthful, spirited practice duels. A mantelpiece served as a display for her keepsake chest, holding cherished childhood items such as a music box that played the Alderaanian lullaby "Mirrorbright," and a baby blanket crafted from gillendown.

Constructed from invaluable Glee Anselm hardwoods, Organa's bed was an antique from a more extravagant period, embellished with swirling patterns of genuine gold and silver, and draped with a silk coverlet. Despite the fact that, by 3 BBY, the royal family "no longer squandered resources on such lavishness," Organa continued to use the bed, as her mother, Queen Breha Organa, deemed it "absurd" to neglect a "perfectly serviceable bed, tiara, or palace."

The room also featured a vanity table, complete with brushes and combs, where Organa's attendant droid, WA-2V, assisted her in her preparations. A cabinet housed various pieces of jewellery, including a pair of silver cuff bracelets and a silver headband adorned with a pearl charm, which Organa wore for her Day of Demand. A Wookiee doll, a gift from her father, Viceroy Bail Organa, also resided in her room. The doll was gifted to her after Organa's initial encounter with a Wookiee at a formal state dinner. Organa regarded the doll as a protector, watching over her within the confines of her chamber.

History

Shortly before Organa's sixteenth birthday, her mother entered her room and placed the Rhindon Sword upon her bed. They engaged in a profound conversation about love and responsibility, with her mother elucidating the significance of the Rhindon Sword to their lineage and people. Breha also assured Organa that, despite her numerous duties and obligations, she retained the freedom to choose and would eventually select her own spouse.

In 3 BBY, Organa sat at her vanity table in her bedroom as WA-2V assisted her in preparing for her Day of Demand. Upon the ceremony's conclusion, Organa retreated to her room, where she observed a thunderstorm from her window seat. She moved to her bed when WA-2V threatened to physically remove her, fearing for Organa's safety. After WA-2V's departure, Organa returned to the window seat, opened the window, and admired the storm and the sight of Appenza Peak.

Upon discovering her parents' involvement in a burgeoning rebellion, Organa struggled to sleep in her room. Similarly, following her return from the moon Onoma, she found herself unable to sleep, consumed by thoughts of the assassination of Quarsh Panaka, which had recently transpired, and the extremist actions of Saw Gerrera and his Partisans, who were responsible for his death.

Some time later, Organa sat at her vanity, while WA-2V styled her hair in preparation for greeting guests at her parents' dinner party. She realized that these dinner parties, which her parents had recently been hosting with increasing frequency, were in reality strategic sessions for their growing rebellion against the Galactic Empire. After secretly observing her parents' meeting, Organa returned to her room, sat on the window seat to brush her hair, and contemplated what she had witnessed, when her mother, Breha Organa, entered to converse with her. During their discussion, Breha remarked that it was beneficial for a girl to fall for a scoundrel occasionally.

A few months later, WA-2V also assisted in dressing Organa for her investment ceremony to become Crown Princess of Alderaan. The night before, Organa had presented her Keepsake chest to her father, Bail Organa, to signify that she had outgrown its use. Bail then entrusted it to his distant cousin, Lord Mellowyn of Birren, who kept it at the Great Hall of Birren.

In 0 BBY, Organa's room within the palace, along with the rest of Alderaan, was destroyed by the Imperial battle station known as the Death Star, under the command of Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin. Organa was forced to witness this devastation while being restrained by Darth Vader, who had seized her by the shoulder.

Legacy

As Organa was escorted back to her cell after being forced to watch the destruction of Alderaan, her room was among the things she mourned that were now lost. She thought she would do anything to have them back, even trading herself.

When Organa was at the shop Lost and Found, on the planet Banas, with [Luke Skywalker](/article/luke_skywalker], between 1 ABY and 3 ABY, she saw a Wookiee doll that reminded her of the one she used to keep in her room. While she and Skywalker were attempting to escape Banas, Organa told Skywalker the story behind the doll.

In 4 ABY, shortly after becoming engaged to Han Solo, Organa reflected on the small things she lost due to the destruction of Alderaan. Among other things, she recalled her balcony with the chipped stone and the sweetmallow cakes that were once sent to her room as a form of appeasement when she was too young to attend her parents' formal gatherings.
